Knowmia Teach on edshelf

Knowmia Teach on edshelf | Elearning technologies | Scoop.it
Information and reviews about Knowmia Teach
Anthea Arkcoll's insight:

The ipad screen as recordable whiteboard.

Screen recordings can be combined with voice, text, graphics, photos from the inbuilt camera, and drawings created on the screen.

Free to teachers.

Two key limits:

1. Doesn't appear to incorporate potential for interaction from learners, so a cognitive rather than constructivist pedagogy.

2..Is only supported operating platform is the iPad and lessons can't be exported to other platforms or websites other than knowmia.com.

Lyn Hogan's curator insight, April 6, 2014 10:43 PM

This a great resource although I do need to spend a little more time sifting through the various items . Briefly , there were a number of existing resources that would be useful in the development of some online support material that I am currently working on . I found that the content in the animations accurate ( this is important) and at the same time engaging . Essentially ,for my circumstances and requirements for functionality this tool sits on the boundary between clever Augmentation and Modification leaning towards the tranformative level in the SAMR model  .

Knowmia has very good and practical features, from the description it's major shortcoming is the use of one type of mobile device which is the iPad which is a restriction to those who are not fans of Apple

The Find, Fill, Follow, Focus, and Frame Curation Skills

The Find, Fill, Follow, Focus, and Frame Curation Skills | Elearning technologies | Scoop.it
Anthea Arkcoll's insight:

An example of the power of a good infographic and a simple mnemonic.

The challenge of 'find' and 'follow' is to step outside your core topic area, to take elements from a seemingly unrelated topic and relate it back to your area of interest.  To me this is heutagogy in practice, the curator taking an active role in determining their learning path and adapting information as required.

Social media offers the key affordances of:

  • Information discovery and sharing.
  • Personal collection and, as desirable, adaptation of information.
  • Connecting with others.
  • Potential for collaboration.

The act of curation involves reflection and creation of learner-generated information.

Why You Need A Content Curation Tool (And How To Choose One)

Why You Need A Content Curation Tool (And How To Choose One) | Elearning technologies | Scoop.it
Here’s how to determine the content curation tools that will work best for you:
Anthea Arkcoll's insight:

Differentiates content aggregation tools, such as Feedly, from content discovery tools, such as Scoop it.

3 key characteristics of users for whom content discovery curation tools are recommended:

  • Are unsure how to find quality content from new sources.
  • Spend too much time trying to find interesting new content to share.
  • Are sick of going to the same old places for content and want to discover new websites and bloggers.

I use Pinterest with it's free private boards as an aggregation tool.

Digital Personality Test

Digital Personality Test | Elearning technologies | Scoop.it

Why do some people love Twitter or hate Pinterest?

Find your digital personality and select curation tools that match your work habits.

Anthea Arkcoll's insight:

Fun and fast way to identify your technology format preference based on factors of organisation and visual focus.

For beginners, such as myself, provides an excellent series of links to:

  • The tools.
  • Guides for basic use.
  • Tips.
  • Groups to join or users to follow.

I can personally vouch for the wisdom of the Pinterest tip "Create boards from start, be specific".  If only I had.... before aggregating hundreds of catering and craft ideas.  While there has been some improvement since the program was introduced, there is no simple and elegant way to reorder the pins within a board.

Unlike tools such as Scoop.it, Pinterest has no limit on the number of boards available to free accounts.  Changes in the terms of use and the introduction of private boards has provided users a way of aggregating content, while avoiding the copyright concerns which were a hot issue in the Pinterest community in 2012.

Scoop This: A Comprehensive Guide to Scoop.it for Content Curation - Search Engine Journal

Scoop This: A Comprehensive Guide to Scoop.it for Content Curation - Search Engine Journal | Elearning technologies | Scoop.it

We’ve been hearing (and talking) a lot about curation and how helpful it can be for companies.

Anthea Arkcoll's insight:

A succinct guide to using Scoop.it for content curation rather than content aggregation.

As Tom Foremski of the Silicon Valley Watcher notes, without the additional layers of mastery, passion, knowledge and expertise,  a curated collection of links is just a collection of links.

Selected as my first scoop to remind myself of how I intend to use this tool.
