Teachers: Interested In Practicing Creating Moodle Quiz Questions?

Teachers: Interested In Practicing Creating Moodle Quiz Questions? | eLearning Stuff | Scoop.it

You can never practice too much. This holds true for teachers who are always looking for the best way to verify whether or not their students have internalized (and can then use) the materials they’ve been given in the classroom.

Marcus Green has posted in the Moodle.org forums about a free course he’s created using Moodle 3.0 that allows teachers to practice creating quiz questions. Specifically:

"The Question Practice module allows teachers to create sets of standard quiz questions based on categories that students can practice on their own."

~5 Minute video explains setting "Passing Grades" in Moodle 2.9 from @Howtomoodle

~5 Minute video explains setting "Passing Grades" in Moodle 2.9 from @Howtomoodle | eLearning Stuff | Scoop.it
Here’s a quick video from HowtoMoodle which helps to showcase the process of setting minimum passing scores for quizzes in Moodle. This is a key feature if you’re tracking specific proficiency levels within Moodle and tracking completion (but remember to provide students more than just one chance if the stakes for completing are high).

This is a new feature for the quiz in Moodle 2.9 (though in previous versions you can also set this at the gradebook level): https://docs.moodle.org/29/en/New_features#Grade_to_pass

Check out the video at http://www.howtomoodle.com/blog/moodle-tips-vlog-setting-pass-grade-moodle-2-9/ or click the image below.

Moodle Activity Module: Dynamic Game design

Moodle activity module to create dynamic games based on the question bank.

Students procastinating too much? Are they playing games instead of studying? Well now you can motivate them by allowing them to do both at once!

Quizventure is an activity module that loads quiz questions from the course it's added to. The possible answers come down as space ships and you have to shoot the correct one.

Moodle Quiz Usability Features and Improvements considered in the Tracker

Moodle Quiz Usability Features and Improvements considered in the Tracker | eLearning Stuff | Scoop.it

Tim Hunt‘s posted a great synopsis of a few usability changes to the Quiz module in the Moodle Forums and now is asking for feedback (votes) through either the forum or the tracker for those who are interested. The improvements aim to remove some of the interstitial clicks required to start a quiz, to make relevant information (whether the quiz has a password, time limit, limited attempts) earlier in the work flow and overall to remove some of the extra clicking that’s required to navigate to start, within, and once a student has completed a quiz.

There are 7 total UI tweaks part of the Epic tracking improvements. You can find a link to them all and see their progress here: https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-46090.

If you’re looking to weigh in or ask a question, join the forum discussion here: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=262467

Included this in the Moodle section as I think it is a welcome reminder and fairly powerful argument to put to those "multiple choice quizzes aren't really effective assessment" people.

Gapfill, Fill in the blank, Cloze tests – whatever you choose to call them – are a very useful question type where learners must complete a text which has missing information. Studying With Quizzes Helps Make Sure the Material Sticks

Studying With Quizzes Helps Make Sure the Material Sticks | eLearning Stuff | Scoop.it
This phenomenon — testing yourself on an idea or concept to help you remember it — is called the “testing effect” or “retrieval practice.” People have known about the idea for centuries. Sir Francis Bacon mentioned it, as did the psychologist William James. In 350 BCE, Aristotle wrote that “exercise in repeatedly recalling a thing strengthens the memory.”

But the testing effect had been mostly overlooked in recent years. “What psychologists interested in learning and memory have always emphasized is the acquisition part. The taking [information] in and getting it into memory,” Roediger said.

Laypeople — and even experts — tend to think of human memory as a box to be packed with information.

“Memory is dynamic, and it keeps changing,” McDaniel said. “And retrieval helps it change.”

Chris Carter's curator insight, November 23, 2016 9:53 PM
I recently presented at EduTECH Asia, Singapore, concerning the power of recall-based learning. Essentially, get the information once (encode-learning), then test yourself repeatedly. The 60+ studies and meta-studies that I examined in preparation for my presentation all tell the same story. Recall-based learning (quizzing) is at least 400% more effective than re-studying in the traditional way. the keys are:
1. frequent quizzes
2. low-stakes quizzes
3. Immediate feedback
4. Interleaved quizzing (quizzing over time, and across units)
5. Pre- and Post-summative assessment reflection

Display questions marked correct/wrong on subsequent attempts in Quiz

Display questions marked correct/wrong on subsequent attempts in Quiz | eLearning Stuff | Scoop.it
Moodle Quiz is a best way to evaluate the students understanding about the learning in your course. Few months ago, someone asked in Moodle forums about displaying “just those questions that were answered incorrectly on the previous attempt” if ‘when each attempt builds on the last’ is selected as the question behavior in quiz settings.

Currently there is no visual ways to display which questions were correct/wrong on subsequent attempts due to which it is very difficult for the students to concentrate only on the incorrect answers of previous attempts. So based on the forum discussion, a new Tracker issue is raised MDL-53802 to display correct/wrong on subsequent attempts.
