The Overselling of Ed Tech

Show me something that helps kids create, design, produce, construct — and I’m on board. Show me something that helps them make things collaboratively (rather than just on their own), and I’m even more interested — although it’s important to keep in mind that meaningful learning never requires technology, so even here we should object whenever we’re told that software (or a device with a screen) is essential.

Use The Availability Conditions Plugin To Control Moodle Mobile Content

Use The Availability Conditions Plugin To Control Moodle Mobile Content | elearning stuff | Scoop.it
If your Moodle site does not already allow access via the Moodle Mobile app, you’re not alone, but your students and teachers are missing out on a tool that can create serious advantages.

One reason some teachers and administrators haven’t pushed for mobile is the concern about losing control of both content and student/teacher relationship. To address this, Moodle HQ has several solutions. Foremost, Moodle has continued to unify the interface experience on both a desktop browser and Moodle Mobile.

Moodle has also created the Availability Conditions Plugin, which gives further control to what students can and cannot do on mobile. Once installed, administrators are provided a suite of new options that allow them to set restrictions on Moodle Activities, for defined rules and scenarios. Any given Activity can be set as also available, exclusively available, or unavailable from mobile. Simultaneous restrictions are possible, according to dates, student grades and user fields, or groups, for instance.

‘What we are’ is constantly changing as we continue to develop our existing skills and take on new challenges to respond to a changing world around us. Learning professionals are no different.

How to become a better eLearning Designer

How to become a better eLearning Designer | elearning stuff | Scoop.it
One of the unique aspects of the e-learning industry is how often it changes and how quickly you have to adapt to that change. Regardless of your background, education, or professional experience, becoming a better e-learning designer requires a willingness to learn new things.

In recent free webinar on the 10 Lessons Learned My First Year in E-Learning, I talked about my realization that the field of e-learning is so much more than just the practice of instructional design. Becoming a better e-learning designer required me to learn the subtlety of graphic design, the art of visual communications, the technical aspects of user interface design, and much more! Instructional design was just one piece of a larger skillset that I needed to master.

Educational technology has become a paramount factor in a ever-growing digital era. This means teachers have to adapt themselves to the varying digital resources and tools that can be used to facilitate and improve the teaching/learning process. Among the different tasks that teachers ususally have to carry out in and outside the classroom there is one specifically teachnology-related: creating online courses in order to provide learners with content and resources necessary to support the classroom practices and to encourage learners to become autonomous.
