The corridor of uncertainty: Preaching to the converted

The corridor of uncertainty: Preaching to the converted | elearning stuff | Scoop.it

The problem with conferences in all lines of business is that they gather large numbers of people who are all in the same business and tend to agree on most things. At all the e-learning conferences I attend there is a wonderful consensus in the air as we all enthuse about new trends and all agree that "something has to be done" about this and that. I often wish that we could see more outsiders at these events, especially more decision makers such as government officials, politicians, principals, heads of department and so on. Instead of preaching to the converted it would be good to let skeptics see how much good work is going on and maybe realize that our field has come of age.

The Science of Storytelling

The Science of Storytelling | elearning stuff | Scoop.it

Every brand tells a story.

According to this study, our brains like stories more than facts.

So give the people what they want: a good story.

Carol Sherriff's curator insight, July 28, 11:48 AM

Intriguing information about how storytelling affects the brain and makes it easier to remember things and make distinctions between the story and our experience.

M. W. Catlin's curator insight, Today, 10:09 AM

I've been talking about these ideas in my workshops for quite a while now.  We are hardwired for story.  It's one, if not a significant reason for our "success" as a species.  It's also one of the incredible frustrations of our times.   That science and facts yield the field to the fiction of prevarication and conspiracy is a tragedy.

Video: Michigan Moodle Theme based on More | elearning stuff | Scoop.it

If you’re interested in some of the ways that More theme can be leveraged to give your Moodle site a custom look and feel, Chris Kenniburg has posted a 5 minute video giving a tour of his site. The site features a custom footer image, custom colors for blocks, background and other page elements, a simple layout and a few nods from Aardvark and Essential theme. Not everything is customized through the Administrative menu, but the theme is also available on Github if you’re interested in seeing the changes (and/or using the theme as a starting point in your own Moodle theme development).

The human brain loves visual content. This is why (Infographic) | elearning stuff | Scoop.it
You may remember the infographic on visual content that I shared a couple of weeks ago. "The Visual Web: A Love Story" featured some insightful stats to prove that effective content marketing must include visuals. Here is another one on the same topic. Created by Column Five, it is a great example of what an infographic should look like: simple, well laid-out, and most importantly, appealing.
