Brewing Moodle Content To Your Taste With Moodle Filters

Brewing Moodle Content To Your Taste With Moodle Filters | elearning stuff | Scoop.it
Moodle Filters are little functionalities that keep an eye on Moodle content, looking for specific words or symbols. When they find what they are looking for, they ‘filter’ the content and transform it. Thus, a Moodle Filter has two parts: the ‘string’ (words of symbols it looks for) and the transformation.

Moodle includes a set of standard filters out-of-the-box, with additional filter functionality available through plugins. By adding multimedia, smart recognition and interaction sandboxes, they can greatly enhance the learner experience.

A particularly vibrant niche of contributed filters involve mathematical notation, with several filters for mathematical equations, graphs and even calculators available for Moodle.

Moodlers who are developers looking to increase ongoing use of their contributed plugins, should consider developing as Filter type to promote quick, practical use of their functionality.

Curing The ‘Scroll of Death’ In Moodle

Curing The ‘Scroll of Death’ In Moodle | elearning stuff | Scoop.it
Ah, the “scroll of death” – that processes we’ve all been through of logging into your LMS some weeks into the academic calendar, and becoming painfully aware of how much you are spinning the mouse wheel to find the week’s content. But did you know that Moodle offers several alternatives to prevent this?

At moodlefacts.nl, the Dutch blog of Moodle services provider in Belgium and The Netherlands provider, Avetica, we found a compilation worth checking out and updating. We will also review the navigation improvements the “Boost” theme brought to Moodle 3.2 in regards to this preventable ailment on LMSs.

Moodle Office Integration: Pawn Sacrifice At The LMS Chessboard?

Moodle Office Integration: Pawn Sacrifice At The LMS Chessboard? | elearning stuff | Scoop.it
A young (and ongoing) discussion on Microsoft Office integration within Moodle, taking place on the Moodle Forums, is starting to look like a new instance of that old battle between two eternally clashing ideologies. The twist here is that, if the two do not concede something to one another in order to reach the next playing field, they will both probably perish, as EdTech teachers and students move forward, towards better integrated third-party services.

It all started when Damyon Wiese, Moodle HQ Development Team Manager, shared the news that their team were “doing some brainstorming” on possible office suite integration at the core. Voices were raised, including some decrying the very fact that such brainstorming was happening. More pragmatic users recognized the dependence of office suites, often vendor-specific, by large swaths of the Moodleverse. Back in November, Moodle CEO Martin Dougiamas suggested in an interview that partnerships with Google Apps and Office 365 were underway.

Check Out This Moodle 3.2 Themes Spectacular

Check Out This Moodle 3.2 Themes Spectacular | elearning stuff | Scoop.it
When seeking to engage an audience, no matter the user or student scenario, an evergreen truth is that they will eventually become accustomed to (almost) any design. As such, any advantage realized by the “shiny new object” principal has a shelf-life and every Chief Learning Officer needs to plan for a regular refresh of their LMS experience.

Here are some of the best visual themes worth trying for Moodle 3.2. They accompany the video above from Moodle Partner HRDNZ, which tries to demonstrate that they can only be implemented and customized in such an easy and straightforward manner, in Moodle.
