Best Practices: Sharing the Lanes of Design and Facilitation in Online Courses

Best Practices: Sharing the Lanes of Design and Facilitation in Online Courses | eLearning Stuff | Scoop.it
Designing and facilitating an online course that is both meaningful and enjoyable is quite a journey. Typically, online courses come to fruition through one of two scenarios. Either one person is both the designer and the facilitator, or separate individuals take on the design and facilitation responsibilities. Both roles are of extreme importance to the overall product. While some people may tend to think of these roles as opposing lanes of traffic, I tend to think of design and facilitation as side-by-side lanes – flowing in the same direction to achieve a meaningful trip for everyone involved.

How to use Moodle for paper and pencil – offline quiz?

How to use Moodle for paper and pencil – offline quiz? | eLearning Stuff | Scoop.it
Moodle Quiz engine is one of the best among the all available learning management systems. You can customize Moodle quizzes to meet all sector specific requirements from small individual students to large universities, from STEM to language and music teaching etc. But have you ever need to use Moodle for offline quizzes?

For example, let’s assume that you want to assess large number of students on same time. Creating hardware infrastructure for such an exam can be costlier affair. What if you can take the exam offline like on paper & pencil and then grade them in Moodle? Like this you can assess a large number of students in a short span of time.

To support offline quiz, there is a Moodle plugin – “Offline Quiz“. The Offline quiz Moodle plugin adds paper-and-pencil multiple-choice quizzes to Moodle. The offline quiz plugin is developed by Academic Moodle Cooperation and is compatible with all stable Moodle versions till Moodle 3.2.

Moodle Community Feedback Required – Improvements in Assessment Workshop activity #moodle

Moodle Community Feedback Required – Improvements in Assessment Workshop activity #moodle | eLearning Stuff | Scoop.it
Moodle Workshop activity is the best powerful peer assessment activity. The students participating in the workshop activity submit their own assigned work and then given the task to assess the other’s students work based on the teacher’s specifications. It is primarily a student focused activity. But the workshop activity has its own big learning curve and it may be pretty difficult to use the workshop activity first time.

Serge Gauthier, from Université de Montréal, figured out the steep learning curve for the workshop activity in Moodle and came up with a new Assessment Workshop activity. Similar to the Moodle core workshop activity, the new Assessment Workshop activity is for both self-assessment and peer-assessment pedagogical approaches.

Critical Knowledge: 4 domains more important than academics

Critical Knowledge: 4 domains more important than academics | eLearning Stuff | Scoop.it

As academic standards shift, technology evolves, and student habits change, schools are being forced to consider new ways of framing curriculum and engaging students in the classroom, and project-based learning is among the most successful and powerful of these possibilities.

Of course, content knowledge matters. It’s hard to be creative with ideas you don’t understand. Academics and their ‘content’–organized in the form of ‘content areas’ like literature, math, and science–are timeless indexes of the way we have come to understand the world around us through stories, patterns, numbers, measurements, and empirical data.

The idea here, though, is that we (i.e., the field of public education) have become distracted with academics–knowledge that is only useful insofar as students tend to use them as they grow into adults that live through doing so. Studying philosophy or physics or poetry and not living through them as a result

Moodle Desktop Spawns To Windows, macOS, and Linux’s Ubuntu, Fedora, and Debian

Moodle Desktop Spawns To Windows, macOS, and Linux’s Ubuntu, Fedora, and Debian | eLearning Stuff | Scoop.it
An official release at moodle.com, following Moodle HQ’s mobile lead Juan Leyva announcement at the Moodle forums, confirms that Moodle Desktop, a native, browser-free version of the open source LMS, is now available across desktop and mobile devices running the most popular commercial and free operating systems available.

Moodle Desktop debuted in early July with a version for Windows devices, including Surface tablets. Available only through the Windows 10 Store, it was designed to help IT departments at Windows-heavy institutions better manage the LMS permissions. For users, it provided an experience that rivaled the one they are used to on the browser, and even made some experiences faster with features like offline access.

With the recent announcement, Moodle Desktop is now available for devices running Windows 7 or later. It also expands its reach to Apple devices running macOS 10.9 or later. For iPads and other iOS devices, Moodle Mobile is available. In fact, both Moodle Desktop and Moodle Mobile are developed by the same team at Moodle HQ, and will offer the same core functionality.

An especially important news from the announcement is the availability of Moodle Desktop for open source systems.
