Give (And Get) Students Simple Reminders With The Reengagement Moodle Plugin

Give (And Get) Students Simple Reminders With The Reengagement Moodle Plugin | elearning stuff | Scoop.it
How hard is it to keep a student’s attention? Do you sigh, does your body language engage students? It is unfortunate that online or blended learning is not free from the efforts of drawing people with the attention span of someone who really likes big balloons. This Moodle plugin might change your fortune.

The Reengagement plugin allows you to set a “soft deadline” to email only the students who have not completed an activity. The plugin can also be set up to email for new course content. The August update for 3.1.2 includes adjustments to restrictions and additional controls for email frequency.

This is a particularly useful plugin for courses with free enrollment. Students who face no short-term consequence of signing up for a course, never to log back in again, could just forget they sign on even if they paid. The reengagement plugin will help you plan your moves ahead, so you can think about the motivating messages to bring them back. A strategy incorporating Reengagement with other marketing tools is a sounder approach. (Just make sure you don’t overuse it to avoid getting the domain of your email address flagged as spam.)

eLearning vs Classroom Training—How different are they?

eLearning vs Classroom Training—How different are they? | elearning stuff | Scoop.it
Elearning has gone from a niche type of teaching for techy subjects to being a preferred, growing and almost necessary way to teach EVERYTHING. Technology is expanding and people’s need and desire to learn on their own time and at their pace is making eLearning the goal for many companies.

However, you can’t be fooled into thinking this transition from classroom to virtual learning space is a one-for-one trade. Designing an eLearning course to be exactly like a traditional instructor-led course is pretty much a surefire way of creating a virtually unusable course that is frustrating for students and teachers alike. Although eLearning shares many features with classroom training, it also has some unique attributes.

The following is a list of the main differences between both training methods to help new professionals in the eLearning industry get started.

These are some suggestions to get you started. Check out Matt Miller and Catlin Tucker and Kasey Bell and other educators who are sharing how they use technology in the classroom. Move towards having your activities and lessons online, but do not feel you need to be paperless tomorrow. First, develop a mindset around what digital can do for you. Actively find ideas you can try, one at a time.

This EdSurge article highlights that only using digital tools for remediation and drill practice has a negative impact on student achievement and engagement. The article lists some specific tips for using technology in a more effective way.

How technology benefits learning

How technology benefits learning | elearning stuff | Scoop.it
First, I make no apologies for this article – it is an unabashed fan letter listing the many ways in which technology benefits learning and is making it more engaging and effective.

Technology is making our world more interesting… it is changing our perspectives… it is redefining previous definitions of normal. Technology has become the great disruptor; the magic wand that gives us the power to make or do things that were previously unthinkable. Technology has changed the way we work and the way we interact. A life without technology today is beyond comprehension. To the millennial generation, technology is a natural extension of their selves. So, naturally, there has to be a technology angle to everything that has anything to do with them. Oliver Wendell Holmes, the US author and physician, said: “Man's mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.”
