Is it really worth all the effort, to implement using Moodle for corporate training? Moodle is one of the top LMS designs out there, stealing the top of LMS lists dependably enough. Restricting E-learning Course Access In Moodle

Restricting E-learning Course Access In Moodle | elearning stuff | Scoop.it

The core function of a learning management system is to store and organize files and provide version-controlled access to data. As a training manager, you may want to have restrictions to the data such as:

1. Complete the first course and the second course is available
2. Complete the first topic and clear the assessments to unlock the second course
3. Just attempt the first topic and access second topic

To apply restrictions to courses, you need to go to Site administration ->Advance Features and tick Enable condition access as shown below

Working With Moodle Course Files- Tips to Know

Working With Moodle Course Files- Tips to Know | elearning stuff | Scoop.it

There has been an alteration in the Moodle course files over the recent years. This change in the file system is among the most beneficial as you can now save files in repositories. The file repositories are where files are stored and managed, which will exist either outside or inside Moodle.

The access to these locations will range in accordance with the admin preferences or settings of every site. The alterations in the File Repository system have the ability to simplify the management of files that are used in Moodle courses. You can now enjoy the capability to distribute the files within several courses. You can also activate and promote updates that will be indicated in each pseudonym location.

Moodle Tips: Suspension of students rather than full unenrolment

Moodle Tips: Suspension of students rather than full unenrolment | elearning stuff | Scoop.it

On our training events, we are regularly asked about removing students once they have completed a course. This can be for a variety of reasons but often it is simply a case of wanting to only display current learners in the grade book and other grade data areas (e.g. quiz attempts table, SCORM attempts table, etc.) rather than all enrolled learners, as these areas can become unwieldy with pages of data relating to learners who finished the course the previous year.

This scenario is not quite as straight-forward as it may first appear. As the grade data areas always show learners who are enrolled in the course, unenrolling them from the course will also remove them from the grade data areas. This process can be achieved automatically by using the enrolment duration in the enrolment method which would unenrol learners after a certain time in the course.

While it is preferable that all learners are not displayed in the gradebook, the drawback to unenrolling the learners is that typically their data is not retained either, and teachers are therefore unable to look back at the grades for unenrolled learners. The solution here is to suspend course learners rather than unenrolling them; this will prevent course access to those learners whilst still retaining the ability for teachers to filter their grade results in the gradebook for their own analysis.
