How Google is disrupting the education system

How Google is disrupting the education system | elearning stuff | Scoop.it
Google has unveiled plans to use its Squared Online course to disrupt the education system, as it says it is “successfully” merging classroom and online learning styles, something it claims rival tech firms have failed to do.

“Squared Online bridges the gap between the classic classroom experience, where you can’t get scale, and e-learning that can sometimes be a bit dry. It offers a more experiential learning experience,” says Shuvo Saha, director of the Google Digital Academy.

The course focuses on digital marketing and is split into five modules which look at disruption, how tech is changing businesses, the rise of social and mobile, data analytics and insights.

Squared Online originally began as a face-to-face class, but the tech giant soon realised it needed more scale and so decided to create an online interactive classroom. To do this it collaborated with Avado, a professional coaching company.

This allowed it to move from 30 people attending classes three to four times a year to working with up to 400 people at a time, in a much more collaborative way.

Want to use Moodle for students without internet access? Check out MoodleBox – Moodle on Raspberry Pi

Want to use Moodle for students without internet access? Check out MoodleBox – Moodle on Raspberry Pi | elearning stuff | Scoop.it
Are you looking to use Moodle for teaching internet deprived learners? Do you want to teach students without incurring any substantial infrastructure cost? Majority of learners now comes with their own devices like Tablets, Smartphones, or computers. How you can save your infrastructure cost when you are running on a shoestring budget and looking to use Moodle for a small group of learners?
The solution is MoodleBox – A Moodle platform on Raspberry Pi:

MoodleBox is a vagrant local development environment which provides Moodle on-line learning activities and file sharing through Raspberry Pi devices. In August 2016, I posted about the forum discussion about Moodle Box which has now come alive as the MoodleBox Project.

The Idea behind the project began in the French community forum discussion about the construction of a Moodle platform on a local computer, to provide an LMS in regions without any network infrastructure. The idea quickly moved towards building it with Raspberry Pi and make it accessible via Wi-Fi.

Instructional Designers are trained in the latest cutting edge technologies and are adept at using creative techniques to build custom training solutions. They are known for their passion for learning, along with their writing, researching, and communication skills. They must also be effective project managers and flexible problem solvers. These Instructional Designer skills are necessary but will be insufficient unless they are applied with a “learner first” philosophy, which places the needs of the learner ahead of the presentation of the content in the eLearning course. Here are 3 modern Instructional Designer skills the experts use to focus on the needs of their learner:

Massive Open Online Courses, or MOOCs, are online courses that allow participants free access and unrestricted participation to any course of their choice.
Oskar Almazan's curator insight, April 21, 9:01 AM
MOOCs were first started in 2008, created by George Siemens and Stephen Downs, and was called “Connectivism and Connective Knowledge/2008” or CCK08. It was created as a credit course for the University of Manitoba. CCK08 had 25 students who had paid fees for the course and around 2200 learners who took the course for free. MOOCs really took off in 2012, when Professors Sebastian Thrun and Peter Norvig of Stanford University offered the online course called “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence”. This course had approximately 1,600,000 students participating from 190 countries. After the success of Intro to Artificial Intelligence, Thrun and Nrovig started Udacity, a business model for online knowledge sharing. There are also a few other MOOCs providers, include Coursera and EdX.
