The Content or the LMS? Which Comes First?

The Content or the LMS? Which Comes First? | elearning stuff | Scoop.it

You need both. Without content the LMS is an empty cookie jar. It’s pretty looking but frustrating every time you open it. Then again, content without an intuitive platform for delivery is a treasure hunt, often without a treasure map to guide you. But wait, don’t order yet, there’s more. eCampus News How collaboration is just a modern LMS away - eCampus News

eCampus News How collaboration is just a modern LMS away - eCampus News | elearning stuff | Scoop.it

Today’s colleges and universities are quickly turning to alternative pathways to traditional teaching and learning approaches, especially for core courses such as developmental mathematics and algebra—and collaboration enabled through modern Learning Management System (LMS) functionality may be one way to accomplish this rejuvenation.

Leveraging today’s key methods and technologies can create collaborative spaces that enhance student learning and outcomes. A teacher can recapture time spent on traditional lecture and create opportunities for exploration of concepts that lead to increased student engagement and mastery level learning—all while accommodating individual student learning pace variations and asynchronous learning.

The technology to help accomplish this form of pedagogy can be brought together in what is being called the “Collaboratory Approach” or simply “Collaboratory.” The term collaboratory is credited to William Wulf for interacting and sharing via software as early as 1989 (Wulf, 1993).

Content chunking for effective eLearning

Content chunking for effective eLearning | elearning stuff | Scoop.it
To enable faster reading and better comprehension, the e-learning course content is split into small chunks or pieces. It is one of the techniques that helps the learner recall efficiently. This method or technique is called as content chunking.

In eLearning, content chunking is the key to presenting content in the form of crisp sentences and bulleted or numbered lists. Instructional Designers need to break long strings of information into bite-sized absorbable pieces as they help learners to focus on one concept pertaining to a topic at one time.

Online Academy: Your Brand, Your Website

Online Academy: Your Brand, Your Website | elearning stuff | Scoop.it

We all like to own stuff. This primordial instinct reflects in big and small situations and things. Online education is no stranger to this phenomenon. Every educator aims to add a distinct identity or character to his or her brand and own it.

At WizIQ, we recognized this need and launched the Online Academy, a complete solution for your teaching and training needs, which gives you absolute control and ownership of your brand and enterprise. Online Academy is for everyone – you could be the owner of a teaching organization with multiple teachers, an individual teacher, or simply someone who has just started exploring the online education space.

Whatever your motivation or reasons, online academy provides you with the right platform and tools to build your own academy and scale up operations as your online presence grows. It’s one complete solution which obviates the need for different teaching solutions.

Here are some reasons why you should build your own Online Academy:

Moodle vs Google Classroom

I have been using Moodle for more than 6 years and have been using Google Classroom in seven of my classes since the start of 2015. Classroom has a great user interface and with Google behind it, it can only get better. However, I did get a distinct impression that Google did not try to learn from Moodle and chose to instead find out the issues the hard way. A lot of the problems I will be mentioning are well-documented and publicly accessible issues (and solutions) that Moodle had to over come. Google chose instead of reinvent the wheel. They are also less transparent (a lot less) on how and when issues will be fixed. Hopefully that will change in the future.

Here are what I think could still be improved in Classroom. They are the reasons why Moodle is still my preferred LMS currently. Note that Classroom gets updated all the time and some of what I say here may already be out of date.

Elizabeth Dalton's curator insight, April 11, 8:38 AM

Digital badges have been around for several years, but still have a way to go until they are fully integrated and recognized appropriately in education and in the world of work.  The fact that Moodle, a widely-used and free system for online instruction, has integrated them in their system is definitely a step in the RIGHT direction.  Go Moodle!

Elizabeth Dalton's curator insight, April 11, 8:50 AM

Great to know that Moodle, one of the most widely used systems for online learning (and FREE) has integrated digital badges.  Badges have great potential, but they need clear definition & recognition of value in the field.  this is a step in a good direction.
