Ecritures collaboratives pour des cours ouverts sur le web

Les formes disponibles de production d’écritures sont variées. Les familles d’outils proposées sur le web, de par leurs caractéristiques permettent ou non de supporter facilement un
processus visé. L’enseignant, s’il choisit d’utiliser ce type d’outil doit être conscient des potentialités des outils pour mettre en place des séquences qui permettent de supporter les objectifs qu’il s’est assigné. Il doit aussi avoir conscience des opportunités nouvelles qu’offrent ces outils.

 

Cette présentation se propose de caractériser quelques outils d’écriture et de montrer en quoi ceux-ci permettent de supporter différents styles d’écriture.
L’enseignant peut alors choisir d’intégrer les outils les plus adaptés en support à ses activités.

Laura Wright, a third grade teacher at Eanes Elementary School, gave a wonderful presentation with many practical tips for implementing the use of 1:1 iPads in an elementary setting. Ms. Wright used the iPads in her classroom during the 2011-2012 school year. Each student had access to an iPad, but the devices did not go home with the students.

 

On her website, Ms. Wright provided a synopsis of all of her tips in a downloadable document. She also posted a video which gives you a peek into daily life in her classroom. You should check these out; this teacher knows her stuff and I learned a great deal of practical, useful information from her.

This is quite a remarkable site, representing a collaboration among 4 Swiss univerities to develop a common approach to the teching of visual literacy, "or the ability to evaluate, apply, or create conceptual visual representtions."

 

"The didactic approach consists of rooting visualization in its application contexts, i.e. giving students the necessary critical attitude, principles, tools and feedback to develop their own high-quality visualization formats for specific problems (problem-based learning). The students thus learn about the commonalities of good visualization in diverse areas, but also explore the specificities of visualization in their field of specialization (through real-life case studies)"

 

The Periodic Table illustrated above is a remarkable attempt to synthesize nearly all the work of the site. With time, viewers will grow to appreciate the efficacy and wisdom gathered in this single resource (at least in my opinion).

When students create a movie or interactive slide show to tell their story, learning becomes personal. Students can improve their writing, show creativity, and have a voice.

Digital Storytelling is the practice of using computer-based tools to tell stories. As with traditional storytelling, most digital stories focus on a specific topic and contain a particular point of view. However, as the name implies, digital stories usually contain some mixture of computer-based images, text, recorded audio narration, video clips and/or music. Digital stories can vary in length, but most of the stories used in education typically last between two and ten minutes. The topics that are used in Digital Storytelling range from personal tales to the recounting of historical events, from exploring life in one's own community to the search for life in other corners of the universe, and literally, everything in between. A great way to begin learning about Digital Storytelling is by watching the following video introduction to Digital Storytelling.

Digital Storytelling can be very powerful for many students addressing various types of learning styles and modalities. Digital Storytelling provides meaning to learning through the use of their auditory, visual and kinesthetic skills. Students are also required to use higher order thinking skills in their creativity of their stories.
However, much of the power of Digital Storytelling comes from the collaboration and teamwork process. In a collaborative environment, students are actively engaged in the exchange of ideas and are not only responsible for reaching their own academic goals, but the goals of others in the group. This provides opportunity for students
to think critically, which promotes life long learning.
Digital storytelling is an effective way to engage students in their learning. First of all, it asks for their perspective and validates it as important. Secondly, they get to work in a medium that is relevant and meaningful to their lives (computers). The ability to tell their story in a variety of ways - through sounds, music, graphics, photographs, and
original artwork allows them to express their creativity in ways other than just text. The skills used in creating digital stories requires them to build planning, organizational, and time management skills.
