Here is a link to explain the SAMR model of technology in education. It goes from just swapping an iPad for a pencil, for example, to being able to do something that would have never been possible if the technology were not present. It is great for evaluating where you and your classroom skill levels are.

This is awesome.  So much theory of teaching collides with the practice.  This could be a great way for teachers in the trenches share their experience and get genuine change in education happening.

Denise Weinhoeft-Renfro's comment, July 5, 2013 3:17 PM
This is truly a great tool in my estimation, but theory and reality also collide with technology. If you are not 1:1 then the potential of the app is not getting used in the best way that it can.
Peter Pappas's comment, July 5, 2013 3:22 PM
Good point Denise. I'm hoping it's something school will grow into over time.

Beth Dichter's curator insight, January 12, 8:53 PM

Are you interested in flipping part of your class and would like to know some tools that would also allow you to add assessments to videos. Richard Byrne has three suggestions and all are free!

*eduCanon - Quoting from the post "eduCanon allows teachers to build flipped lessons using YouTube and Vimeo videos, create questions about the videos, then assign lessons to their students."

*Teachem uses the TED-Ed model. Choose videos that are hosted on YouTube. Add questions and comments. Videos may be public or private.

*Knowmia is a website and iPad app and their website has over 17,000 videos that you may use. You may also create your own. Knowmia has been designed for teachers and students and provides an Assignmen Wizard and is adding additional  features.

If you looking for a tool that allows you to flip a lesson and also include an assessment these three provide a variety of options. Have fun exploring and finding the one that will work best for you.

Ness Crouch's curator insight, February 23, 6:23 PM

I've heard a lot about SMAR but never really taken the time to look into it. It might be time now that I'm looking at integrating more technology into my classroom. This model clearly supports technology and expects the use of it.

Richard Whiteside's curator insight, February 27, 6:42 PM

Explains a lot about how digital tech can help, though on investigation this seems to be a model developed seemingly from nowhere without much academic work behind it. Example of a simple model stating the obvious? Does it matter that it's origins are hazy? Having had the chance to look into it and its creator, it's interesting to note how popular it is and how accepted it is, without much critique. Is it really that great a model?! Just wondering! Raises a lot of questions.

If my school district goes 1:1, my suggestion would be Chromebooks ... they're lightweight, have a keyboard and can do virtually anything students would need to do.  But lots of schools go with tablets and they can do great things. Here's a good infographic in favor of them.

How to make Moodle grader report easy to read

How to make Moodle grader report easy to read | eLearning_mLearning | Scoop.it

In a Moodle course teachers can grade students’ work and view the report via the “Grades” option under the “Course administration” (see figure 1). However the default view of the report is not easy to read as there are too many available columns in the table and teachers have to scroll left and right horizontally to be able to see all the column data. Although it is not a big problem when there are only couple of students, imagine that you have more than 10 students in the course – it will get difficult to keep track of whose grade report you are looking at as you scroll the student names column out of view.

Luckily there is a useful “Static student column” feature which can be enabled to make the Moodle Grader report easier to read.

All you need to do is to navigate to Administration > Grades > Report settings > Grader report and tick the checkbox for the “Static students column” option. Click the “Save changes” button before you leave the page.
