What exactly is SMO? According to Wikipedia: "Social Media Optimisation (SMO) is the use of a number of social media outlets and communities to generate publicity to increase the awareness of a product, brand or event. In general, social media optimisation refers to optimising a website and its content in terms of sharing across social media and networking sites."

 

'Google has stated that their current search engine algorithm factors in 'social signals' to help it determine where a website should rank in a search result page. Social signals are social media-related recommendations, likes, tweets or social sharing that are associated with the brand's website.

 

Currently, the value Google associates with a particular social media platform and the type of social media activity is not measurable by us. It is safe to assume that Google+, as Google's own social media platform, is the most important in terms of generating social signals. It is also safe to assume that the social signals, which are generated by Facebook and Twitter, are both significant, due to their popularity'.

Useful article for defining the basics behind social media optimisation SMO - as this forms the foundation on understanding how to actually use social media marketing. It also discusses SEO - Search Engine Optimisation another useful tool and or concept which is used in integrated marketing and public relations campaigns. However, the main point outlined in the article was that websites needs to have/provide easier access to links to their social media sites very visible (interconnectedness). This is deemed as the best way to generate SMO. Another good explantion is - "effective cohesion between a brand's content creation, publication and social media platforms."

You can write great content for Google or Social. But I am not really sure it is possible to do Google and Social well.

 

Google killed SEO and now it understands words so you can just write about any old thing and it will figure out you mean “entrepreneur marketing”, but a couple of minutes on the search engine will show you these kinds of results for your industry!

Jenn Herman shares some basic, but useful tips to help you create images that pop. The Michael Kors example is dead-on! 


My favorite part of the article is when Jenn talks about the importance of perspective: "Sit down on the ground, lay on your stomach, place the camera on the table, get up above the subject, shoot straight up to the sky or ceiling."

I selected this article from Curatti written by Jenn Herman because I'm love Instagram and if you know what you're doing it can be very effective if it's appropiate for your particular business needs.


Hashtags here and on Twitter are a must to keep the conversation going, attract potential customers and/or a following, learn what your competitors are saying and doing........but if you don't use them properly it can work against you.


Here are a few things that caught my attention:


Hashtags

Instagram allows you to use up to 30 hashtags per post. But that doesn’t mean you should be using that many! Depending on your brand and your audience, you will likely find a sweet spot between 5 and 10 hashtags per post.


Using less than 5 hashtags limits the number of searches in which your post will appear. But using too many looks spammish and can annoy your followers.


Use Relevant Keyword Hashtags

Your hashtags should include relevant keywords that are associated with your post. If you sell jewelry, including tags like #gold, #jewelry, #fashion, and #gemstones would be considered relevant.

These should relate directly to the item or content in your post.

El presente trabajo propone proveer un modelo metodológico mixto para el desarrollo e implementación de un Módulo de Enseñanza para el español como lengua extranjera en la modalidad presencial. El objetivo principal es evidenciar cómo los principios metodológicos provenientes de los enfoques didácticos ("enfoque por tareas" y "aprendizaje cooperativo") pueden ser aplicados de manera efectiva en el diseño de contextos presenciales. Para ello, se explora evidencia empírica acerca de la efectividad de la metodología mixta en la enseñanza-aprendizaje de español como lengua extranjera en dichos ambientes, en un estudio basado en un diseño experimental longitudinal con pre-test y post-test, sin grupo control.

Great article. With 97% of the US population having a cell phone within arms length 24 hrs a day, and over 50% of search with local intent taking place on mobile device, the convergence of search, mobile & now social is undeniable. As the post indicates, if you're not in the top 5 positions in Google you (pretty much) don't exist. Great read!
