The Ultimate Blended Learning Tool: Sky™ wifi smartpen Introduction

Here's a technology that any student can use to 'blend' the traditional lecture with online productivity tools.

Take notes and they are wirelessly uploaded to Evernote, along with a sync track of the lecture you're listening to.  Very slick.

"As blended learning continues to expand across the K-12 sector, definitions are important to help people talk about the new phenomena. This white paper refines our previous work in helping to create a shared language for the emerging field so that innovators can build upon each other’s ideas, rather than talk past each other."

Why Online Students Need to Be Actively Engaged in Class - Online College Courses

Why Online Students Need to Be Actively Engaged in Class - Online College Courses | eLearning and Blended Learning in Higher Education | Scoop.it

Student engagement is one of the main concerns that online instructors have when teaching. Instructors know that if students are not actively participating, they will not absorb the material being taught or disengage and ultimately drop the course. While professors have a responsibility to present the information in a compelling manner, they are only half the equation.

Students, too, are responsible for their involvement with course material. But what does engagement mean to you as the student? Why does it matter? How can you increase your interaction to other students and the online instructor?

THE way Bill Gates sees it, the university as we know it is an endangered species.

Five years from now - on the web for free - you'll be able to find the best lectures in the world, the Microsoft billionaire said last year.

And in Gates's opinion this constantly expanding digital smorgasbord of educational choices will be better than any single university in the world.

Infographic: 6 Types of Blended Learning

Infographic: 6 Types of Blended Learning | eLearning and Blended Learning in Higher Education | Scoop.it

"Blended Learning is not so much an innovation as it is a natural by-product of the digital domain creeping into physical boundaries. As digital and social media become more and more prevalent in the life of learners, it was only a matter of time before learning became 'blended' by necessity. That said, there’s a bit more to Blended and 'Hybrid' Learning than throwing in a little digital learning."

Hybrid Education Model - Thesys

Hybrid Education Model - Thesys | eLearning and Blended Learning in Higher Education | Scoop.it

Also referred to as blended learning, hybrid learning is an educational approach where the traditional classroom is integrated with an online component. A web-based Learning Management System (LMS) contains curriculum and course materials, and ties the two learning environments (classroom + online) together.

In a hybrid learning model, the teacher conducts lessons during scheduled class sessions and students are assigned independent study online. The student receives face-to-face instruction during class meetings, and then logs into the LMS for independent study (or virtual group collaboration) to continue their learning and to complete assignments.

Report shows hybrid learning has same outcomes as classroom | eLearning and Blended Learning in Higher Education | Scoop.it

Another report that essentially finds no significant difference between different modes of learning when variables are ‘properly’ controlled.

The value of this study is that it is properly randomized and controlled with a sufficiently large sample population to produce significant results. Unfortunately though it comes up with nothing new – most experienced researchers in the field would have predicted the result.
