Guatemala And El Salvador Shaken By Earthquake
Sky News
The US Geological Survey said the quake struck around three miles (6km) south of Pajapita, Guatemala, at a depth of 42 miles (68km).
Michelle Carvajal's insight:

if there were images to see, we could actually see how the people of Guatemala and El Salvador actually live. We would be able to understand why so many were terrified of the earthquake and its magnitude, for it could destroy the only place they know as home. The structures of the buildings are not checked by inspectors and at times that can become catastrophic. -M.Carvajal

Banda El Salvador – Rose Parade 2013 | El Salvador C.A from Politics, Society & Education | Scoop.it
The band includes cheerleaders, folk dancers, and Mayan Princesses. As well as the the band members that have been putting so much time, and effort to give the best performance possible.
Michelle Carvajal's insight:

Again, the sound may not be the best for those used to hearing bands in college and high school but its the thought that count and the amount of preparation given. Hopefully we will see better as the years prgress and given that there is enough money provided to these band members to travel.

Band travels 4 days from El Salvador for Rose Parade

Band travels 4 days from El Salvador for Rose Parade | El Salvador C.A from Politics, Society & Education | Scoop.it
The 147 high school age musicians in Banda El Salvador traveled four days by bus from their Central American homes to take part in today’s Rose Parade.
Michelle Carvajal's insight:

This marked the 2nd time in which a nand from El Salvador has made its way to the Rose Parade in California. This being larger then the first time a couple of years ago makes it a fascinating story of inspiration and perserverance. The first band to enter put all their money into the travel expenses and didn't eat in order to pay for gas to make it in time. This band also took a four day journey to make it for the parade in 2013. It is inspiring to see how a small country in Central America can find it within their current economic state to make such travels to bring pride to many here in the US and in their own land.

Pride soars high for individuals who have come to the US looking for a new life and also for those who are born to Salvadoran parents. Though they did not have the equipment nor training of a college band or high school band in the US, they still did a terrific job in representing. Will this soon become a habit and bring increased tourism to the small country? We have to wait and see.
