NHS to start prescribing health apps that help manage conditions

NHS to start prescribing health apps that help manage conditions | El pulso de la eSalud | Scoop.it
The future of healthcare could be in your pocket. Two new medical apps that help people monitor their health at home, reducing their need to visit a doctor, are set to be rolled out to as many as four UK National Health Service trusts over the next year. The apps, which are currently being trialled in four hospitals in Oxfordshire, UK, transmit patient data from a tablet or smartphone directly to clinicians. According to Ilan Lieberman, a member of the Royal Society of Medicine’s council on telemedicine and ehealth, such apps will have a huge impact on the management of chronic diseases. One system, called GDm-health, helps manage the treatment of gestational diabetes – a condition that affects about 1 in 10 pregnant women. The smartphone app lets women send each blood glucose reading they take at home to their diabetes clinician.

This cancer-spotting algorithm rivals dermatologists - Futurity

This cancer-spotting algorithm rivals dermatologists - Futurity | El pulso de la eSalud | Scoop.it
The option of receiving a skin-cancer diagnosis by smartphone could save lives, say researchers.

It’s scary enough making a doctor’s appointment to see if a strange mole could be cancerous. Imagine, for example, that you were in that situation while also living far away from the nearest doctor, unable to take time off work, and not sure if you had the money to cover the cost of the visit.

Universal access to health care was on the minds of computer scientists when they set out to create an artificially intelligent diagnosis algorithm for skin cancer, making a database of nearly 130,000 skin disease images and training their algorithm to visually diagnose potential cancer. From the very first test, it performed with inspiring accuracy.
“We realized it was feasible, not just to do something well, but as well as a human dermatologist,” says Sebastian Thrun, an adjunct professor in the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. “That’s when our thinking changed. That’s when we said, ‘Look, this is not just a class project for students, this is an opportunity to do something great for humanity.'”

- les terminologies de référence , nomenclatures officielles créées et maintenues soit par l'ASIP Santé qui en est propriétaire, soit par une organisation externe à l'ASIP Santé ; dans ce deuxième cas l'ASIP Santé recopie la terminologie, la formate et la renomme selon ses conventions de nommage et de structure, pour l'intégrer dans ses systèmes ;
