Dépollution : Assouan promise à mieux respirer

Dépollution : Assouan promise à mieux respirer | Égypt-actus | Scoop.it

Protesters try to storm into church in Aswan

Protesters try to storm into church in Aswan | Égypt-actus | Scoop.it
Egypt-actus's insight:

An Aswat Masriya eyewitness said on Friday that clashes were renewed this afternoon as some protesters showered the Mar Girgis Church in Kom Ombo, Aswan with petrol bombs and stones.

The protesters accused the church of kidnapping a Muslim woman to convert her into Christianity.

The witness said that the security forces responded by throwing teargas bombs at the protesters.

He added that the alleged kidnapped woman is called Huda Tuni, aged 37.

Hundreds gathered in front of the church on Thursday after rumors spread that the woman was kidnapped to be forced into converting.

The church and the security forces denied that the girl is kidnapped for conversion, saying that it is a standard case of disappearance.

Archbishop Yohana Rizk stressed that finding the missing girl is the responsibility of both Muslims and Christians.

Le Haut Barrage fête ses 53 ans

Le Haut Barrage fête ses 53 ans | Égypt-actus | Scoop.it
Egypt-actus's insight:

Bodies in Aswan tomb reveal premature deaths

Bodies in Aswan tomb reveal premature deaths | Égypt-actus | Scoop.it
Egypt-actus's insight:

Research on the bones of 200 ancient Egyptians revealed that they suffered from hunger and malnutrition and a whole range of infectious diseases as well as having an extremely high infant mortality rate.

These are some of the conclusions drawn from Qubbet el-Hawa Tomb 33, a project carried out by the University of Jaen, in which anthropologists from the University of Granada (UGR) participated, along with the Ministry of State for Antiquities.

The Qubbet el-Hawa necropolis lies opposite the modern-day city of Aswan. Tomb 33 was constructed during the 12th Dynasty (1939-1760 BC), to house the body of one of the region of Aswan’s leading dignitaries, whose identity is still unknown.

The site was later re-used at least three times (18th, 22nd and 27th Dynasties) and is one of the largest in the necropolis. It has a huge archaeological potential, since it houses at least one chamber that remains intact, containing three decorated wooden sarcophagi.
