"The first phase of the parliamentary elections has revealed a new political and electoral equation in Egypt. On one side is the Muslim Brotherhood and their political arm, the Freedom and Justice Party. On the other, there is the Free Egyptian Party, the leader of the Egyptian Bloc, which champions liberalism and civil rights.
This new geography is both promising and alarming for Egyptian political parties.
The good news however is both that all political parties are working with democratic principles through the ballot box, and that the emerging liberal forces are unifying to counter the superior organizational and influential power of the Freedom and Justice Party." (Khaled Salah/Youm7)
