The Egyptian exports to the Canadian market in January 2013 recorded EGP 638 million; increasing the growth rate to 238%, compared to EGP 171 million in January 2012.

A reliable source in the Foreign Trade Sector told "Amwal Al Ghad" that this number is the biggest export volume that the Egyptian export attained since the commercial relations started between Egypt and Canada; referring that this jump came due to the exports of building materials to the Canadian market, which recorded EGP 602 million.

While the rest rate of Egypt's exports to Canada represented in EGP 13 million of read-made garments, and EGP 10 million of carpets.

In January 2013, the citrus exports recorded EGP 588 million, rose by 41% from a year before, which recorded EGP 415 million.

This export value of citrus helped in increasing the exports of agricultural crops to EGP 1.5 billion in January rose by 79%; compared to EGP 849 million in January 2012.

The increase of the citrus exports' rates resulted in raising the prices in the local market; ranging between 25-50%, pursuant to the data of the fruit and vegetables prices in the Aboor market. (...)  This increase is impacted by the increasing global demand on Egypt's citrus; especially the Russian one.

 

Magdi Al Waliliy, Member in the Agricultural Export Council (AEC), told "Amwal Al Ghad" that the council is getting ready to take part in a number of international specialized conventions; in an attempt to to keep the high export rates that the agriculture crops recorded at the beginning of 2013.

He referred that this hike is a positive step in achieving the targeted export rates by the end of 2013; which reach EGP 13.6 billion, according to the data of the Egyptian Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade.

Egypt's non-petroleum exports during January reached LE 11.260 billion, up by 12 percent compared to the same month of last year, when the level was LE 10.028 billion, according to a recent report issued by the Industry and Foreign Trade Ministry.

The increase came due to the rise of the exports of some export councils, Minister Hatem Saleh said.

The Export Council for Agricultural Crops, for example, oversaw an increase from LE 849 last year to LE 1.520 billion in the same month of this year.

The Export Council for Spinning and Textiles saw LE 427 million of exports, compared to LE 344 million in January 2012, while Export Council for Leather and Footwear reached LE 94 million compared to LE 53 million last year.

Dr. Hisham Allam, Director, Horticulture Research Institute (HRI), has unveiled that the global exports of citrus went down by 3% to reach 3.9 million tons, and the countries that export oranges are the European Union, Russia and Saudi Arabia.

The report, which issued in July 2012 by the US Ministry of Agriculture about citrus, the global markets and trade, elaborated that the global production of orange declined by 7% to 51.1 million tons. This decline is due to decreasing the production in Brazil, Mexico and EU countries.

He added that the Egyptian exports of citrus amounted to 1.1 million tons in 2011-2012; referring that the advantage of the Egyptian citrus represents in high quality of the fruits, in addition to Egypt's location and it is near to the global market. He expected the increase the exports in 2013.

Les premières pommes de terre d’Egypte sont arrivées sur les marchés européens : primeurs (peleuses) Nicola sur le marché britannique, primeurs bio sur le marché allemand. Mais actuellement, l’essentiel des exportations égyptiennes a d’autres destinations. 
Le service chargé du suivi des maladies de quarantaine a ainsi libéré pour le mois de février 21 500 t de pommes de terre pour l’exportation, dont 7 783 t vers le Liban, 1 070 t vers la Russie et 7 605 t vers l’Union européenne.

Egypt mulls export duties on cement

Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade, Egypt, Hatem Saleh has announced that the government is considering imposing export duties on cement to curb price hike.

The government has attributed its decision to the unjustified jump in cement prices in the local market and to the lower supply of cement.

The prices of cement have jumped from EGP 420 to EGP 700 per ton.

Egypt's exports rose by 12 percent in January 2013, recording LE11.2 billion compared to LE10.2 billion in the same month last year, the ministry of industry and foreign trade said Monday.

Minister Hatem Saleh said the rise by an increase in exports of several exporting sectors adding that the current political impasse prevented exports from reaching an unprecedented rise.

The ministerial report showed that exports from the agriculture and textiles sectors increased significantly in 2013 against 2012, reaching LE1.5 billion and LE427 million, respectively.

Furniture exports slumped by 2 percent, recording LE176 million; chemicals and fertilizers exports declined from LE2.4 billion in 2012 to LE1.8 billion in 2013.

Saudi Arabia and Libya rank first on the list of countries importing from Egypt last year as their imports registered LE1.189 billion and LE922 million respectively.

Egypt's Agricultural Export Council (AEC) has revealed the value of the rice exports from October, since the minister left ban on exporting rice, recording EGP 609 million that distributed on 145 thousand tons to the global market at average price EGP 4200 per ton.

Magdi Al Waliliy, Deputy of Rice Committee, at Agricultural Export Council (AEC), has asserted to "Amwal Al Ghad" that the total of the rice exports in the last period is 75 thousand tons in the first bid announced last October by the Egyptian Ministry of Inudstry and Foreign Trade, and 64 thousand tons in the second bid last December.

He added that the most important foreign countries that imported the Egyptian rice are Syria, Iraq, Turkey, Lebanon, and Kurdistan. As to the broken rice, it is also imported to a number of the European countries; affirming that the council is looking forward to increasing the rice exports in the coming period so as to improve the total value of the council's exports.
