English Listening Lessons

chris cattaneo's insight:

Caroline's audios are realistic descriptions (monologues) and delivered at a lovely natural NS speech speed.

Teachers will need to add more to make them useful:

After doing the Pre-listening vocab matching tasks, which are simple 'click' or online drag and drop 'while listening' tasks of what you hear (not what any of it means), elicit MFPA for any pre-listening vocab your student doesn't know (if necessary)

GIST : Add a 'meaning' task to have students grasp the gist of the description (after the first listening), plus devise a second-listening DETAILED understanding listening task to check sts catch the meaning of the text in more detail. Note that filling in words they hear into a transcript of the text doesn't mean they've understood what the text is all about.

Finally, devise a follow up - something to write (eg a letter/article/etc) that's connected to the topic.

Understanding Intercultural Communication Part 1 - Saying 'no'

Understanding Intercultural Communication Part 1 - Saying 'no' | EFLTRAINING | Scoop.it
Is English Language Teaching just restricted to language or should we be debating cultural differences and intercultural communication, wonders Chia Suan Chong...
chris cattaneo's insight:

What's a FTA (face threatening act)?

How many times do you have to say 'no' until it's a real 'no' without seeming rude?
