Talk to Me - The Chronicle Review - The Chronicle of Higher Education

Talk to Me - The Chronicle Review - The Chronicle of Higher Education | EFL Teaching Journal | Scoop.it

The moral? Shy students are not necessarily lazy or indifferent or hopeless. I have encountered a few superbright undergraduates who simply do not deign to bother conversing with their inferior classmates—and I am prepared to come down hard on them. Most of the "mutes," however, wish they could speak, and some of them desperately want to do so. In my own case, threats and ridicule were counterproductive—and I suspect that, especially at nonposh colleges, that is true more often than not.
