Delete the scoop?

ENGLISH, ELT, ICT, VISUALS's insight:

"British children say 'like' five times more than their grandparents according to a 20-year language study, while 'love' is all around us.[...] The word ‘love’ is used more than six times as often as ‘hate’, while ‘save’ is used with ‘money’ twice as often as the word ‘spend’."
ENGLISH, ELT, ICT, VISUALS's insight:
Not to be outdone, as for "like", French youths also use it much more often than the older English speaking Froggies used to ;o) I had never really pondered the matter, but to me such a 'likemania' might have been determined by an increasing listening to American English sounds on air, more than to British English ones -mind you, nothing scientifically grounded here, only a mere personal feeling... Not to mention the (unconscious ? but likely !) influence of FBook's successful takeover bid on the word. Delete the scoop?

Teaching with project-based learning can be challenging. [...] It's fairly simple to find video examples of what PBL looks like in the classroom at all levels [...] but where can you find specific tips on how to plan and carry out great PBL? What are the building blocks of rigorous and relevant projects? How can you address some of the challenges you'll meet? While it's unlikely that you will become a PBL pro just by watching videos, this playlist will provide some gateways to get you thinking about the nuts and bolts -- and lead you to some organizations with many more tools and resources for tackling PBL. Agreement on how American schoolchildren should read and write is much easier to arrive at than agreement on what they should read and write.

"[...] Put another way, emotion is the English teacher’s entry point for literary exploration and for the development of the high-level skills outlined in the Common Core State Standards, which have been adopted in 45 states. Unfortunately, the authors of the standards are not particularly interested in emotional risk taking but rather in the avoidance of political risk. It is a rather bloodless effort. Millions of students have signed up for massive open online courses, and hundreds of universities are offering some form of Web-based curriculum. Some of the prose on the web is dreadful, but some is as good as anything on paper. [...] But is it really true that English is being abused and impoverished in "blogs and emails"? I suppose it depends what kind of blogs one reads – the New Yorker's Page Turnerblog or Crooked Timberseem pretty well-written to me – and what kind of email correspondents one is blessed with (a lot of mine, I'm happy to say, are rather excellent stylists). Bullying is a subject that never seems to go away and one that really sticks in my craw so to speak.
ENGLISH, ELT, ICT, VISUALS's insight:
Bullying in real life schools as well as cyberbullying have become both a concern and a burning issue to French English teachers. As bullying and harassment have been dealt with in the US educational system, there are many resources on this topic -like this relevant infographic... As a poster, it is likely to attract the pupils' eyes in the classroom, and it might also provide data to build language activities as part of a lesson plan on th subject. Delete the scoop?
