Changing Education Paradigms (Ken ROBINSON | ANIMATION

This RSA Animate was adapted from a talk given at the RSA by Sir Ken Robinson, world-renowned education and creativity expert [...]"

Monica Mirza's insight:

In the excerpt from Sir Ken Robinson's TED talk I blogged there :  http://0z.fr/NJZg7 last year, he asked whether schools kill creativity and suggested a few bright answers...

It was issued in the site Teachers' Lounge for it's likely to interest colleagues, but I think it might also be of some interest to students. Besides, Ken Robinson's speech is so articulate and clear that it'll have the students feel as good at understanding a native speker... as I did myself :-D

The animation above corresponds to another of his talks. It deals with changing education paradigms and is quite shorter : hope you'll enjoy it !

Help Your ESL Students Improve Their Listening: 7 Ideas that Really Work

Help Your ESL Students Improve Their Listening: 7 Ideas that Really Work | EFL-ESL & ELT | Learning, Teaching, Education | Scoop.it

It's no big secret. ESL students won't get very far if they have weak listening skills. [...] Students often believe that to improve their listening they must simply exercise their “ear”. But it’s important for students to understand that it’s not as simple as that – the ear is not a simple muscle to train; listening comprehension is a lot more complex than that. Merely sitting and listening to something for hours won’t do the trick; they can learn a lot more from a focused 15-minute listening exercise."

CNN’s Schools of Thought blog covers education from a variety of perspectives that include policies, practices and people.

"I understood, especially in these tough economic times, that striking can be an unpopular choice, but I wrote it with some rage at the lack of empathy and understanding I felt as an educator. I wrote it with the hope people would understand that we made this tough choice in the interests of our students. " a teacher says.

Creating Infographics with Students | Langwitches Blog | EFL-ESL & ELT | Learning, Teaching, Education | Scoop.it

You wouldn't consider pics less -let me find a proper word- 'serious'  than printed words, for learners to work with... would you ? Using visuals definitely helps. : I've started using infographics for ELT since I first viewed one (have to admit it was dazzlingly bright)... many years ago.

Not only do infographics help visual learners understand and memorise, but they do help... anyone learn ! Besides, they now look familiar enough to enter our teaching tool case :-}

"Why teach with infographics?

- organize and group related information together

- tell a story

- connect information

- make raw data more appealing to most learners who are visual

- understand complex relationships between data over time

"This book is based on two assumptions of ours. One, it seems to us, is indisputable ; the other, highly questionable. We refer to the beliefs that (a) in general, the survival of our society is threatened by an increasing number of unprecedented and, to date, insoluble problems ; and (b) that something can be done to improve the situation. If you do not know which of these is indisputable and which questionable, you have just finished reading this book. [...]"
