5 New Realities of SEO

5 New Realities of SEO | Effective Website Marketing | Scoop.it

To improve accuracy Google and Bing are attempting to understand what was actually meant by a search and refining results based on semantics.

What this means for website owners is they can no longer count on writing content about a subject, optimizing it and going to work on links to the page. Sure, that stuff will always play a role, but there are other significant factors at play today.

How to Recover From Negative SEO

How to Recover From Negative SEO | Effective Website Marketing | Scoop.it

If you are wondering if negative SEO has happened to your site, there are two simple ways to determine this:

If you have a notice in Google Webmaster Tools for either malware notification or unnatural link building, there is a good chance negative SEO has taken place (assuming you didn’t do any unnatural SEO to your own site).
If your analytics data is reporting a huge drop in search traffic, there is a good chance some negative SEO happened (assuming you didn’t do anything to break Google’s webmaster guidelines).

Once you’ve determined something has happened, here’s how you go about fixing it: http://www.quicksprout.com/2014/03/17/how-to-recover-from-negative-seo/

You know... I REALLY have a hard time feeling friendly toward Google.  Or YouTube, for that matter.  They're both arrogant as the day is long.  I mean, where else would any sane person do business with somebody where you couldn't even talk directly to a manger...let alone the 'owner'.

They get all pissy and and toss people off of their platforms with virtually zero recourse at all while at the same time giving the government any and all information they want while ALSO taking our information and using it either (a) for their own purposes and/or (b) against us.

That's good service?

I recall hearing that Google+ is changing into another animal now that the original founder has departed.  That's the way these guys do it.  They're digital 'pushers'.... get you hooked and then raise the price.

The consumer is changing how they view the businesses that supply the products or services they want or need to purchase, and business owners need to note and act on these changes, if they wish to remain in business.

In the past, if you had what someone wished to purchase and you were conveniently located  and reasonably priced you got the business, but now consumers weigh up many factors before they commit to a purchase and a key factor is the social standing of the business in their community.

This excellent article, explains the changes that have occurred in consumer behaviour, and it offers ten ways a business owner can satisfy consumer expectations whilst remaining profitable.

Building Effective Business Leadership Skills

Daniel Watson's curator insight, December 4, 2013 7:30 PM

Every business requires good leadership, yet many business owners lack the level of skills needed, to effectively guide their businesses to become successful and sustainable entities.

Often, the lack of knowledge and understanding of the skill set required to become an effective business leader, is the one thing that is holding back many business owners from achieving success.

This excellent article, suggests that there are specific skills that a business owner needs to develop in order to effectively motivate and direct others, and it lists and explains ten ways to enhance business owner leadership skills.

Brooke Foederer's curator insight, December 4, 2013 11:35 PM

There are many new graduates who want to grow to be an effective and professional business leader. Today it seems as though it is becoming harder to work up your way up the ladder in the business world. This article gives and discusses many great tips for building effective business leadership skills.

Not only do hiring businesses look for professionals and skills but for a strong leader as well. Good leaders are made, not born.

The first step to becoming an effective leader is to value others. Give people praise for the good work that is done and let others know how good of a job he or she is doing.

Secondly, lead by example. By challenging yourself and choosing the hard task shows that you are willing to accept a challenge and excel. Show others what you are capable of and be the motivator for them to work harder.

Third, be strong. There are always other coworkers watching or your boss. Being patient is always a good trait to practice and by doing so one can learn to control anger and frustration.

Fourth, help others do a good job. Train others to do their job the right way, give feedback and corrective criticism. Any positive feedback will anyone to feel good and may motivate them to continue the good work.

Fifth, find your leadership style. Everyone has a leadership style that they are comfortable with. "Some managers work in the trenches alongside their staff. Others watch from a distance, holding off detractors."

The last few tips include, hold reasonable expectations, continue to learn, study the company’s mission, vision, and goals, monitor department progress, and prioritize your work.

In our textbook 'Adventures in Public Relations' by Guth and Marsh, the first chapter discusses the world of public relations. I thought this article related to the public relations process-research, planning, communication, and evalution. The PR process is necessary for all of the skills needed to become and effective business leader.

Google Ranking Factors: A Discreetly Cleaner, More Social Web & An Ever Dominating Search Engine

Google Ranking Factors: A Discreetly Cleaner, More Social Web & An Ever Dominating Search Engine | Effective Website Marketing | Scoop.it

Recently, Search Metrics released a white paper on their findings for Google’s SEO Ranking Factors in 2013. It displays the correlation between particular metrics such as ‘Facebook Likes’ and ‘Backlinks’ and the rank ability of a page within Google.

Also available in the 70 page document are comparisons with 2012’s data, where that data is available. Not to many marketers surprise, a lot has changed. According to Search Metrics, it’s time to get social! In this article I graze upon some of the most important areas as well as my thoughts on what Google is playing it – for better and worse.

The data from search metrics is based on research and is not 100% factual. Nor are my opinions factual, but rather opinions and statements based on what I believe to be happening.
