Every single teacher is concerned about his/ her teaching practices and the skills involved in this process. How many times have you wondered about a better way to teach the same lesson you have delivered to an eariler class? How often have you used technology to engage your students and improve their learning ? These are some recurring questions we keep regurgitating each time our teaching skills are put to the test.

Whatever Happened To iBooks?! | Edudemic | Edutechification | Scoop.it

"Recently, I saw a post on a discussion board that asked, “Whatever happened to iBooks?” I found that a really entertaining concept, because my EdTechTeacher colleague – Greg Kulowiec – and I have spent hours on iBooks this summer in our workshops. In fact, iBooks is one of the first apps that we discuss, and one of the last ones that we reference. However, our use of this tool follows along a path from consumption to creation."

Digital Storytelling | Ohio State University

Digital Storytelling | Ohio State University | Edutechification | Scoop.it

Description by The Scout Report

"What's a digital story? The folks at the Digital Storytelling initiative at The Ohio State University define it thusly: "a short (3-5 minute) movie which uses images, voice, and music to tell a story." The initiative is a great idea and this website offers visitors the chance to get acquainted with the digital stories that are being created at the school. Visitors should start their journey here by navigating over to the Stories area. Here they will find examples of these narratives, including "Howling at the Moon," "Clover Angst," "Our Sacred Circles," and "What's This Say?" Moving on, the Resources area includes information for those who would like to create their own digital stories. The links here lead to copyright-free audio and video sources, along with low-cost or free images. Also, this section includes helpful handouts that are used in the storytelling workshops at the OSU campus. No doubt this website will be a source of motivation and inspiration for those people who might like to create their own narratives:

"But after class is over is where the lecture truly becomes collaborative and two-way. I always upload my slides to an online location so that students can access the information for their upcoming homework assignment. Each student is required to contribute a unique comment or annotation to an assigned number of slides. The contribution could be any or all of the following:

The individual student’s written notes or a meaningful question, now attached to one of my slides

A quote from the textbook which either extends or contradicts the information presented in class.

An analysis of one of the primary source images or historical quotes"

"If you haven’t heard of Learnist yet, you’re going to see the name around a whole lot more as of 11am today. That’s because Learnist just launched its new iPad and iPhone apps. Edudemic got a hands-on view of these apps and they are quite remarkable. Not just because they’re fancy apps that look nice, but because of what they signal to the larger world of education technology.

"These apps are going to be the yardstick by which future edtech apps are judged."

Mapping Media to the Curriculum » What do you want to CREATE today?

Mapping Media to the Curriculum » What do you want to CREATE today? | Edutechification | Scoop.it

By Dr. Wesley Fryer

Fryer, a longtime leader in ed tech, has created this relatively new website to accompany publication of his book, "Playing with Media: Simple Ideas for Powerful Sharing". The site is filled with rich resources to aid teachers in building lessons and activities that are both standards-based and excellent uses of digital media.

For example, the Mapping Meida to the Curriculum offers 12 tutorials on how to create projects, units, and lessons using strategies such as interactive writing, podcasts, visual notetaking, narrated screencasts, e-books, and much more.

The Student Media page provides exemplary samples of student work in many of these same areas; so helpful in giving students ideas about what good work looks like. And the YPS Lesson Resources takes viewers to a very useful website from the Yukon (OK) Public Schools that contains a new and growting collection of templates, sample lessons, and additional resources.

All in all, this site offers a great deal and should prove very useful to teachers. -JL
