64 varied and essential iPad Apps for teachers

64 varied and essential iPad Apps for teachers | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it
What exactly makes an app “essential” is open to interpretation. For pure productivity, you could consider the direction of Google Drive, Skype, Zoom Notes, iAnnotate–maybe a gradebook app, Class Dojo, etc.

But what if your classroom if is full of open-ended projects and you need to constantly communicate with students, parents, and the community? Google+, Google Hangouts, Remind, DIY, and maybe Trello?

College-prepping seniors in high school? Need apps for struggling readers in elementary? It just depends.

Which is what made the list below by Craig Nansen so interesting–its diversity. Garage Band, notability, Wolfram Alpha, VoiceThread, Explain Everything–a variety of apps for a variety of needs for a variety of classrooms. There’s not much here for game-based learning or learning simulations, but the universal application for so many of the apps gives the list impressive utility for a lot of you out there–which is why we shared it here.

La tecnología que ayuda a enseñar y aprender | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Digital Culture and neuroscience: A conversation with learning and curriculum

Digital Culture and neuroscience: A conversation with learning and curriculum | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it
Multimedia digital technologies mirror neural processes and capacities and their proliferation introduce new possibilities for learning. Not only does the new digital media have the capacity to instantly record and communicate lifeworld experiences unimpeded by the distance or size of the targeted audience, but offers the means to construct virtual reality environments which were previously beyond human experience. This finds the teacher confronted with a new array of modes and an extended concept of literacy through which to engage the student in learning and meaning making. Digital culture and its multiliteracies now present challenges for the curriculum work of teachers, both in terms of the integration of appropriate technologies and the capitalization of the sensory and memory capacities of students. This article outlines the challenges faced by teachers as they engage in curriculum work that seeks to integrate the capabilities of our new digital culture in the design of learning experiences. It also highlights insights into human capacities for learning offered by neuroscience regarding the interplay of experience, memory, cognition, emotion and reflection in learning. By aligning these strands, teachers can develop curriculum that align with the capabilities of new digital technologies with the capacities of students.

Disruptive Technology: mLearning in 2015

Disruptive Technology: mLearning in 2015 | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it
Technology has disrupted the way we learn and has forced us to exceed, at every step of the way, our expectations - of its advancements. Disruptive in every sense of the term, it has never ceased to amaze us. When online learning came into being, little did we realize that that was just the beginning of a series of disruptions – each one transforming lives and taking businesses and global economy to a higher level. How different will it be in 2015?

For all the hype that was created around it, mobile learning actually had a slow start. It’s been a while since it took off and the figures have been low. The slow start is not due to negligence on the part of technology, but the hesitancy on the part of organizations and administrators to adopt a new learning strategy; but that has passed, and with less aversion to the use of technology-enabled learning, 2015 will be different.

2015 will see mobile learning as the most disruptive game changer that will profoundly alter the business landscape. Technology will enable organizations to transmit bite-sized bits of relevant information to help employees absorb as well as retain information. Employees will also be able to access information at the time of need (just-in-time learning).

Evaluating Facebook and Twitter for eLearning

Facebook and Twitter. The two biggest social sites on the web at the moment (there’s also Google+, but that’s for the most part a wasteland analysts say). Chances are that you (and your spouse, mom, and perhaps dog) have an account on one or even both. But are they any good for anything else, besides getting in touch with friends, exchanging gossip and viewing holiday pictures, baby and pet snapshots, and celebrity status updates?

Scannable: A new powerful app from Evernote | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it
Here is a wonderful new app released by Evernote a few days ago. Scannable is an app that allows you to easily scan papers and save them to your Evernote or share them with others via email or text. The way Scannable works is pretty basic: simply point your iPad or iPhone camera at the document you want to scan (this could be a post-it note, information on a business card or notes on a whiteboard), Scannable immediately captures it and make it available to you in the form of a shareable document.

(Educacióndisruptiva) | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it

Learning by Watching: Social Cognitive Theory and Vicarious Learning

Learning by Watching: Social Cognitive Theory and Vicarious Learning | Edumorfosis.it | Scoop.it
Have you ever stood in front of a machine, with little or no idea about how to operate it – say at a self-check-in counter at an international airport that has its default language set to Dutch, or in front of a self-service kiosk for a tram that requires you to input information and money to print your ticket?

In such or similar situations, what do you do if you have a couple of people operating the machine before you? Try and peep in, don’t you? This isn’t to embarrass you. Rather, we have stated this example to prove a point: that observation is an intrinsic human technique to learn unfamiliar tasks or behaviors – something that has been theorized by the psychologist Albert Bandura as what he called the ‘Social Cognitive Theory’.
