En uno de nuestros artículos más populares del pasado año hablamos sobre las Profesiones del Futuro y qué estudiar para ellas. Hoy, sin embargo, queremos pararnos a analizar el paso anterior, es decir, imaginarnos cómo será la Universidad del Futuro.


La Universidad de Nueva York (NYU) encomendó la misión de predecir cómo serán las universidades del futuro a un grupo de profesores y emprendedores, dentro del marco de unos debates sobre el futuro de la educación superior. El presidente de la NYU, John Sexton, el profesor de la Harvard Business School, Clayton Christensen, y Zach Sims, cofundador de Codecademy, debatieron cómo las nuevas tecnologías educativas y el aprendizaje virtual impactan sobre el modelo tradicional de educación.

Durante la discusión surgieron ideas muy variadas pero todos coincidieron en algo: “Estamos viviendo un momento de reestructuración radical de la enseñanza superior. El status quo ya no es una opción”. A continuación os detallamos algunas predicciones sobre cómo será la universidad del futuro para que así puedas saber si estás o no preparado para afrontar estos nuevos retos.

When Udacity’s Sebastian Thrun, Coursera’s Daphne Koller and Andrew Ng, and other education innovators decided to start putting courses from top universities online, for free, their idea was to make education accessible to everyone who wanted it, regardless of socioeconomic status, country, and other barriers to getting a traditional college education. What they may not have anticipated was that MOOCs would be such a huge hit with people who already had that traditional education—those already in the workforce who had gotten their degrees five, ten, or even twenty or more years earlier.


But that’s exactly what has happened. MOOCs have spurred a major trend toward lifelong learning. Companies are now experimenting with ways to harness their employees’ desire to learn to help their organizations succeed.

El espacio encarna la lógica y la dinámica pedagógica que defendamos y si creemos -como es el caso-, que debemos facilitar el trabajo colaborativo, la autoorganización y la persecución de fines consensuadamente establecidos, que favorezcan la asunción de la máxima responsabilidad en el propio proceso de aprendizaje, entonces no cabe seguir pensando que nuestras aulas o nuestras bibliotecas sigan pareciéndose, morfológicamente, a las que conocimos, sino que tienen que variar hasta convertirse en lugares en los que, silenciosa y subrepticiamente, se amparecen esos procesos.

Even the best teachers hit limitations; there just aren't enough hours in the day to know everything about every pupil they teach. But technology is starting to change that. In the coming years, a lot of the legwork, and the burdensome aspects of teaching will be assisted by technology.


Great teachers can make such a difference to a youngster's education. They know their pupils intimately; they inspire and encourage them to learn and to enjoy learning. But even the best teachers hit limitations; there just aren't enough hours in the day to know everything about every pupil they teach. But technology is starting to change that. In the coming years, a lot of the legwork, and the burdensome aspects of teaching will be assisted by technology.


Some may think that a gloomy prospect. Certainly there are people concerned that technology in the classroom may diminish the role of the teacher. But I think this is due to a lack of understanding of the things technology brings to the classroom. As a developer of education software, I have seen first hand what an incredibly empowering thing technology can be for both students, teachers, and parents too.
