10 trends of Personalized Learning in 2017

10 trends of Personalized Learning in 2017 | EdumaTICa: TIC en Educación | Scoop.it

Personalized Learning continues to be on everyone’s mind. 2017 will see exciting examples and models of personalized learning that will be unique for each community. The idea of personalizing learning is not about creating one model that works for everyone; it is about creating an authentic model based on the needs of everyone in that learning community. We see the trends as a way to focus more on the distinctive characteristics of each learner and adapt the system and process as they learn, grow, and change. Teachers are learners too, and that means developing a support system for change. We divided the 2017 ten trends into five categories:

Process: UDL, innovation and creativity as the foundation for personalized learning.Technology: Digital literacy plays a large role in personalized learning.Structural: How learners will learn at their own pace and build their network.Teaching & Learning: Learning is personal for both learners and teachers.Cultural: When teachers encourage equity and agency, culture in the classroom changes.

We decided to choose two trends for each of the five categories that we believe will be big this coming year. Each of these trend takes in so much around personalized learning that we see multiple directions teachers and learners can use these trends to grow and change throughout the year and beyond.

New Media Literacy: What Students Need to Know About Fake News

New Media Literacy: What Students Need to Know About Fake News | EdumaTICa: TIC en Educación | Scoop.it
Sometimes it seems as if educators can’t take on one more responsibility, and yet the scourge of fake news is not something that we can ignore. If we are to help our students to become critical and independent thinkers and responsible citizens, we need to empower them with the tools to take on fake news and other manipulative media.

How Students Can Use Timeline Infographics in the Classroom

How Students Can Use Timeline Infographics in the Classroom | EdumaTICa: TIC en Educación | Scoop.it

As a foreign language teacher, I am always looking for innovative ways to allow my students to demonstrate what they have learned.

I want students to be able to choose a tool that brings out their creative side and, as a result, leads to a more authentic and meaningful learning experience.

Because learning a language can be difficult, I try to design a variety of activities and projects that will provide students with practice and unique opportunities to develop their language skills through the creation of their projects.

Competency based education in Moodle – a walk through with Damyon Wiese #Moodle

Competency based education in Moodle – a walk through with Damyon Wiese #Moodle | EdumaTICa: TIC en Educación | Scoop.it
Damyon Wiese, Development Manager Moodle HQ and the brain behind the development of the Competencies in Moodle has shared a walk through introduction to the Moodle competencies. The presentation delivered during the MoodleMoot Australia 2016 goes through the steps involved in setting up a competency based education framework and learning plan from a standard competency system.

The new feature, which was introduced in Moodle 3.1, brings a new learning management system approach to Moodle. The site administrators can add site wide competency frameworks and learning plan templates for a new level of personalized learning in Moodle. During the presentation Damyon shows a glimpse of the possibilities and flexibility of this system by showing and explaining its use in a real context of higher education.

[Infographic] The state of technology in education

[Infographic] The state of technology in education | EdumaTICa: TIC en Educación | Scoop.it
In 2016, ClassFlow surveyed more than 1,500 educators across the UK to identify current attitudes and trends concerning technology in education. What we found, is that while teachers hearts are in the right place – with over half striving to innovate using technology as a tool for education – issues such as budget restraints and a lack of training are holding them back, with 70% of educators believing their school is not investing enough money in technology for education, or is investing in the wrong things.

However, with only 1% of teachers believing that there is no place for technology in the classroom, the future looks bright; with technology appreciated as a useful tool in a plethora of modern teaching methods, and resources.

The State of Technology in Education Infographic brings you a selection of the key highlights from the survey and subsequent report. Findings, highlight that teachers WANT to use technology in the classroom, but that investment is needed to ensure modern schools have the IT infrastructure necessary to reap the real educational benefits it provides; and ensure their long-term success.

Remember though that finding the right tool is important, but how you structure and design interaction with the content is way more important. Taking classroom activities and materials and placing them on a web-based platform and expecting them to work is sure way to disappoint students. You need to think carefully about how the student will engage with the materials and how the materials relate to each other to ensure that your materials don’t just test the students’ knowledge and abilities, but that they guide and enable the student to hypothesise and make and confirm deductions in order to encourage deeper levels of autonomous learning.
