Personalized Learning: Changing the way students learn

Personalized Learning: Changing the way students learn | Edulateral | Scoop.it

We started the re-boot of our personalized learning initiative by getting everyone on board. The leadership for personalized learning lives in the academics department. The technology department is critical in making personalized learning a success. However, personalized learning is not about a device. It is about the teaching and learning that take place because all students have access to a device. It is about the classroom instruction that changes because learning is able to be personalized and differentiated to new levels. The leadership for personalized learning must come from the Academics Division for the focus of the initiative to be on what we are all about — teaching and learning! It is critical that the academics and technology departments have a strong working relationship. Personalized Learning will not be successful if those two departments are unable to work together to accomplish the vision.

20 top Virtual Reality apps that are changing education

20 top Virtual Reality apps that are changing education | Edulateral | Scoop.it
Virtual reality is one of the hottest edtech trends. Not only are students allowed the opportunity to emerge themselves into a subject but can travel the world from their desk chairs. While not readily available in every classroom, programs such as Google Cardboard aim to make VR headsets cheap and accessible. The majority of students in the USA own a cell phone, and with many of these educational apps available on both iOs and the iTunes-enabled devices, they are becoming more accessible to more students. Educationally, these VR apps allow students to visualize concepts that were confined to the pictures in a textbook. Below are 20 Virtual Reality Apps that are changing education.

A powerful media and information literacy project from UNESCO

A powerful media and information literacy project from UNESCO | Edulateral | Scoop.it
UNESCO has entered the digital literacy fray by publishing what they call five laws of media and information literacy.  While they don't use the phrase "digital literacy", it's clear that they're addressing that field's concerns. I'd like to summarize their offerings, then reflect on their strengths and challenges.  tldr: it's impressive. This literacy (they call…

The ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) has been with us for decades, and, for better or worse, it’s firmly embedded in instructional design practices. With some tweaks, ADDIE just might find a new use as an entry-level model for developing performance support solutions. Here’s how.

Can computers replace teachers?

Can computers replace teachers? | Edulateral | Scoop.it
Leaving my school building the other day, I had an unexpected realization: Perhaps a computer was a more effective teacher than I currently was. The thought unnerved me, and still does as I’m writing this. I’m a nearly 13-year veteran educator dedicated to reflecting upon and refining my teaching craft. But I’m now considering the real possibility that, for at least part of a class period or school day, a computer could—and maybe should—replace me.
