We have revisited our Google Drive add-ons’ chart we published last year and added few more categories to the list. More specifically, we added Drive tools for creating educational visual content, tools for working on PDFs, and collaborative mind mapping tools. Our purpose is to provide teachers with a collection of notable apps to help them extend their Drive activities to include functionalities not provided by the default Drive features.

Digital tools and the theory about using them in teaching and learning are linked to the practical implications (praxis and pedagogy) of what that means and does not mean. WiFi, its existence, the control of it and access to it is of deep concern to children. Analysis shows that children see it as almost elemental, as immutable as the weather, literally part of the landscape. It’s represented as omnipresent, over-arching and essential to human connection and collaboration, with many of the artworks conveying a sense of wonder and amazement at the power and potential of WiFi.

The Next Stage of Personalised Learning: a virtual tutor for every student

The Next Stage of Personalised Learning: a virtual tutor for every student | EduInfo | Scoop.it
I do not believe that any machine could be as engaging or inspiring as a good teacher. Instead, human teachers could be supported by AI tutors, so that they have more time to focus on what they do best – creating positive classroom environments, planning exciting lessons, and developing richer more personal connections with each individual student.

Via Nik Peachey

Richard Whiteside's curator insight, October 31, 2016 12:50 PM
Very interesting. I've been thinking for a while about how AI could help teachers with feedback. There are always issues with teacher time regarding how much personalised feedback students get, what if the feedback on some of each student's extra writing and speaking (recorded) practice was provided by AI? More practice, more feedback and more 'data' for a teacher to see on each student.

Would this work? Would it be good? Who knows?! But it seems interesting to me.
Mauricio Ramírez's curator insight, October 31, 2016 9:17 PM
"What if we could give every student their own virtual tutor?", this is such a profound question that drove me to think about not only my students' necessities, but my own as an English facilitator who sometimes finds it quite difficult to guide learners, give them timely feedback and prepare classes and tests. Thus, having a virtual tutor would not only be ideal, but useful in order to help students practice and therefore improve their language skills; however, my only concern up to this point would be whether Artifitial Intelligence (AI) might replace teachers, and although the author emphasized on the idea that "with AI, we might see driverless cars but we will not see teacherless classrooms.", I still have my doubts going on in my head. Worth reading anyway! ;)

Students are not the only ones looking for more at-home learning: parents and teachers are also on board. Eighty-eight percent of parents and 84 percent of teachers are interested in having more at-home digital content available to supplement what's being taught in school. The increasingly digital behaviors of students, teachers, and parents are expanding the way learning occurs. Understanding and positioning ahead of that behavioral shift will be critical in helping educational organizations succeed in the digital future.
