"Los medios de comunicación son como los gatos. Hacen compañía en el sillón, se encargan ellos solitos de sus cosas y hasta queda bien tenerlos. Pero los gatos a veces arañan y los medios de comunicación a veces engañan....También nos engañan las redes sociales, .... Pero a los medios, como a los gatos, hay que entenderlos. La mejor forma de evitar arañazos es saber qué es susceptible de provocarlos."

De repente montou-se uma guerra no Norte do Mali. Contra o terrorismo e pela democracia, notam os  dirigentes franceses e repetem as diplomacias ocidentais. E se esta guerra fosse também - alguns dirão: sobretudo - um biombo para acautelar os interesses do Ocidente em urânio, produto em que o pobre Mali é rico?
Ao ler notícias que nem sempre os grandes media publicam e, menos ainda, aprofundam, sobre o eclodir deste conflito na África do Norte, damo-nos conta de que o caso é bem mais complexo do que o pintam e que vale a pena acompanhar com atenção este dossiê.

"Tradicionalmente los contenidos educativos han sido un resumen de los saberes que representan las formas de hacer de la cultura, el pensamiento y las creencias de la humanidad. Así, las diferentes disciplinas se reflejaban en unos contenidos educativos organizados en torno a unas materias escolares “encerradas” bajo la llave de los libros de texto. En este artículo se alude a la conveniencia del uso de la publicidad como herramienta escolar. Partiendo del alto índice de consumo de mensajes publicitarios del alumnado, se argumentan las implicaciones pedagógicas y pragmáticas de operaciones textuales en las que interactúan los procedimientos verbales de creación del sentido, que adquirirán la “forma” de aquellos objetivos que se convertirán en aprendizaje, con otros sistemas iconográficos de comunicación."

"No, I’m not the biggest fan of the Oscars per se... but I do love the way that they, like awards in media generally, can provide a springboard for critical thinking and insightful discourse once we go beyond the glitz. Or maybe I should say, “Once we decide that the glitz itself is worthy of analysis.”

Maybe that’s why it surprised me so much to learn that AMPAS, the Oscars’ organizing body, also provides quite a robust series of Teacher’s Guides that would work well in a variety of contexts, from libraries, to media or tech labs, to ELA classrooms. Perhaps best of all, they’re free, and you can access them here."

"The platform enables users – such as journalists and photographers – to build interactive and visually captivating packages of content, which can then be embedded within a news site.

 

We discussed the concept with founder Bjarke Myrthu, who describes Storyplanet as "a packaging or a wrapping or an interface tool", which journalists can use to bring together collections of their work in a great user experience.
"So if you have a bunch of different media types, some text, some video, some photos, you can create a really nice package out of it that people can navigate in different ways," Myrthu added.

Storyplanet seems to be a very cool and easy tool for creating and publishing interactive stories with all kinds of media. Very useful for journalists - and for school kids and teachers, too. Worth trying!

Each story is built on a grid, which users can then add "tiles" to, which effectively form each page of the story, and appear like slides in a presentation.
The grid format means tiles can be arranged in different structures based on the desired flow of the story and navigation between pages can also be applied.

 

Using the builder tool each tile can be laid out, edited and have content added to it, whether that is a photo, video, piece of audio or just text.

The content of a tile can vary from featuring just a photo to acting as an index page with a list of sections, like chapters, which can be clicked on by the viewer to reach different parts of the story. 
Users can also edit transitions between tiles, the order of the tiles and other details such as changing the background colour of the tile.

The final product is viewable via a URL and can also be embedded, and played through the Storyplanet player. Currently this is a Flash player, but Storyplanet is currently working on a HTML version..."

"I hear people say that movies have become the modern day "novel", meaning, I suppose, that people today (particiularly youngsters) use movies as their choice of entertainment, story-gathering, listening and learning. Not sure if I agree, but if that is the case, are we teaching our school children the difference between fine art and drivel? Are we conducting classes in film, and have we written curriculum for the language of film? If not, shouldn't we begin?"
