Gamification and learning: a review of issues and research

This paper will review the literature on gamification and aim to apply principles of analysis for synthesize existing research, identify issues of controversy, uncover areas that future gamification research should investigate. The paper starts with an introductory paragraph which gives an overview of the topic (i.e., define the concept, identify the characteristic components, discuss about the elements of a gamified experience). Then, the attention is focused on gamified learning, in order to investigate what happens when gamification is introduced in class, especially on student’s motivation, engagement, and performances. The last part focuses on the lines of research to be pursued in the area of gamification and suggestions are made regarding those aspects which would benefit most from future research.

The OECD report on students, computers and learning: have your say!

The OECD report on students, computers and learning: have your say! | Educommunication | Scoop.it

The OECD has recently published a report entitled "Students, Computers and Learning: Making the connection"(http://www.oecd.org/publications/students-computers-and-learning-9789264239555-en.htm). This report has caused quite a stir - both in popular media and in professional and academic circles. But what does it actually say? What are the conclusions we should draw from it? What are the consequences and implications we should expect?

Raising Kids in a Violent World | Educommunication | Scoop.it
From television, to war toys, to the latest Hollywood blockbuster, kids today soak up an enormous amount of violent imagery. More than 3,000 studies point to a strong correlation between violent media consumption and aggressive behavior.

People have been calling for limits to television violence since the 1950s, but on-screen brutality and bloodshed has only increased with time.

This story map is a great visual of the current refugee crisis. This would be a helpful aid in describing the geographical barriers refugees face and how it affects them. For example the map shows where highest concentrations of deaths occur, naturally it is in the ocean. The ocean is a barrier for fleeing refugees. Think about how different landscapes and land forms can affect refugees available paths to flee

"The desperate men, women, and children flooding into Europe from the Middle East and Africa are not the only people moving along ever-shifting and dangerous migration routes. Last year saw the highest levels of global forced displacement on record—59.5 million individuals left their homes in 2014 due to 'persecution, conflict, generalized violence, or human rights violations' according to the United Nations.
