Facebook Top Source for Political News Among Millennials

Facebook Top Source for Political News Among Millennials | Educommunication | Scoop.it
Among Millennials, Facebook is far and away the most common source for news about government and politics. When asked whether they got political and government news from each of 42 sources in the previous week (36 specific news outlets, local TV generally and 5 social networking sites), about six-in-ten Web-using Millennials (61%) reported getting political news on Facebook. That is 17 points higher than the next most consumed source for Millennials (CNN at 44%).

Most Teens Seek Health Info Online: Survey

Most Teens Seek Health Info Online: Survey | Educommunication | Scoop.it

"More than eight in 10 U.S. teenagers turn to the Internet for health information, and just under a third have changed their health behaviors based on what they found online, according to a new survey.

Teens following online advice sampled healthier foods, tried exercising when depressed and reduced how much soda they drank, the survey found.

But the Internet still ranked fourth, behind parents, school health classes and health care professionals, in terms of where teens get their information, the study authors from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., noted.

A Televisão Ubíqua (e-book)

A Televisão Ubíqua (e-book) | Educommunication | Scoop.it

(...)

Daniel Tan's curator insight, May 20, 2015 7:40 PM

I think all these online response systems requiring the use of the students' devices are wonderful. However, is there an impact, perhaps one that might be significant enough, of the use of students' devices in that the device is personal. Do students using an older device relatively to others in the class be sensitive in its use When majority of the classmates have the latest ohone device models. Also when teachers and faculty be comfortable of students while using the devices in the exercise are distracted (actual or presumed or perceived) with other apps during that exercise?

Also when the wireless access point be robust and reliable enough when it experiences a surge/flood of signals when large numbers of simultaneous responses are transmitted in a small time window.

My observation is that teachers do not want to be encumbered with such distractions, uncertainty and confrontation when only partial student responses are recorded due to technical issues. The latter also leads to the technical support of student devices which is unknown (which version of OS), unfamiliar (what other apps or potential of interdependencies) and uncertainty (are you sure they are not checking on their apps while others are still thinking of their responses?)

Chris Carter's curator insight, May 20, 2015 8:11 PM

There are a number of student response systems. The more important question, rather than which one are you using, is are you using any one at all?

K_Lynam's curator insight, May 26, 2015 5:31 PM
