Highlighting EU ICT initiatives and research

"This booklet highlights some of the many EU initiatives and co-funded research and innovation projects which address ... societal challenges. This is not pure research for research’s sake, but rather research with very practical applications which benefit us as individuals and as communities."

The Value of Media Literacy Education in the 21st Century: A Conversation with Tessa Jolls (Part One)

The Value of Media Literacy Education in the 21st Century: A Conversation with Tessa Jolls (Part One) | Educommunication | Scoop.it

"Tessa Jolls has been a long-time advocate of media literacy education in the United States and around the world. I was honored to be able to attend an event last year at which she was presented with the Jessie McCanse Award from the National Telemedium Council in recognition of her lifetime commitment to fostering media literacy. Jolls was one of the very first media literacy advocates to welcome me to the field and to rally behind the work of our New Media Literacies initiative. Since 1999, she has been the President and CEO of the Center for Media Literacy, where she has pushed hard to develop some shared principles and core questions that might inform a diverse array of media literacy initiatives, and where has shown consistent flexibility and vision in redefining media literacy for the 21st century".

Why I Just Asked My Students To Put Their Laptops Away… | Educommunication | Scoop.it

"I teach theory and practice of social media at NYU, and am an advocate and activist for the free culture movement, so I’m a pretty unlikely candidate for internet censor, but I have just asked the students in my fall seminar to refrain from using laptops, tablets, and phones in class."

International Literacy Day: the library’s role in promoting literacies

International Literacy Day: the library’s role in promoting literacies | Educommunication | Scoop.it

Today is International Literacy Day. It reminds us that promoting and sustaining literacy is one of the critical roles of libraries. Our strength lies in the fact that we are really about literacies, all those skills individuals need to participate effectively in an information society.

| Educommunication | Scoop.it

Crítica da razão impura | Educommunication | Scoop.it

| Educommunication | Scoop.it

The kids market is a place where fierce competition rages between otherwise cuddly characters like Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse (yes, both are still around, albeit in newer, hipper incarnations), but it turns out there’s a contingent of children watching stuff that isn’t marketed to or made for them at all.
