"AverageMohamed.com was set up to talk plainly to Humanity. The issue of extremism is one that directly affects us all. I have waited for a constructive logical argument that can reach average people. It has dawned on me that it will take an average guy. It is an average guy who turns average people into extremists. It will take all of us average people to tell them other wise. My mission is simply create a counter ideology with your help and input. Give average parents who deal with their average kids and clergy talking points that can help with theological or even logical talking points countering falsehood propagated by extremists. I live happily in the greatest place a person can call home, amongst a people who cherish peace and offer people like me unparralled oportunity to achieve as much as I want to. It is in their name and that of my children and the right to free speech I do this."

"Le partenariat historique entre le Clemi et les médias est plus que jamais d’actualité, avec le souci de l’appréhension et de la compréhension des grands enjeux qui traversent la société tels que le pluralisme comme socle d’une démocratie vivante, la diversité des points de vue argumentés et développés par des professionnels de l’information, ou encore la responsabilité individuelle et collective face à la production et à la diffusion d’informations. De fait, les médias sont un des piliers démocratiques qui mettent les valeurs de la République au cœur de leur travail. Le dossier pédagogique 2016 de la 27e Semaine de la presse et des médias dans l’école propose un accompagnement des enseignants dans leurs questionnements, leurs doutes mais aussi dans leur engagement à travers leurs projets en classe et dans les établissements. Ces projets peuvent s’appuyer sur les fiches pédagogiques et d’informations-conseils afin d’engager sereinement le travail d’éducation aux médias et à l’information avec les élèves."

"Le présent rapport part du postulat que l’éducation aux médias constitue une valeur ajoutée et un facteur de qualité de vie dans le quotidien des citoyens du 21e siècle, ainsi qu’un pilier de la démocratie. Comme l’a affirmé une étude récente, « l’omniprésence des médias dans la société moderne est telle qu’il n’est plus seulement avantageux de bien les connaître : ne pas avoir de compétences médiatiques constitue aujourd’hui un véritable handicap".

social me: social media literacy for middle school classrooms

"Middle school is a time of drastic physical, cognitive, and social change for students. Many kids post their first messages on social media at this age, and their developmental changes are magnified and affected by their experiences online. ‘social me’ uses a media literacy framework to help kids become critical producers and consumers of photos on social media. Designed for use in schools, it combines lesson plans for teachers and a tablet app for students. Through challenges, discussions, and reflections, ‘social me’ brings kids’ everyday photo-sharing experiences into the classroom."

Twenty Turkish communication and media scholars will be unable to attend the annual conference of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), 27-31 July, in Leicester, UK, because on 20 July the government of Turkey imposed a ban on international travel for all academics associated with Turkish universities. As a consequence, Turkish researchers will not be able to share their research and knowledge at the most important global meeting of media and communication researchers.

Não sei se deverei começar por fazer a habitual declaração de interesses, ou se o leitor já está familiarizado: sou da rádio, gosto da rádio, investigo rádio e faço outras coisas, também relacionadas com a rádio. Mas não faço parte do grupo dos que ficaram no passado carpindo mágoas por uma rádio mal amada, por vezes mal tratada, menos ainda perco tempo a achar que antigamente é que era bom.

"While there isn’t complete consensus in any scientific field, a study we conducted showed more than 90% of paediatricians and about two-thirds of media researchers surveyed agreed that violent video games increase aggression in children. Additionally, several cross-sectional and longitudinal studies have found that while exposure to violent media isn’t “the” cause of extreme violent behaviour, they do increase the risk of such behaviour."

The fifth annual global celebration of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week will take place from 31 October to 5 November, 2016. The Global MIL Week 2016 highlights include the Sixth Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue (MILID) Conference and the First General Assembly of the Global Alliance for Partnerships on Media and Information Literacy (GAPMIL), taking place November 2-5, 2016 in São Paulo, Brazil.

The Global MIL Week activities and conference are important opportunities for members of GAPMIL and the International University MILID Network to meet and share the latest research, projects, new ideas and information with a diverse gathering of stakeholders involved in information and media literacy, and in print, screen-based and digital media. 

UNESCO and GAPMIL are calling partners all over the world to promote the MIL Week.

All parents, to varying degrees, worry about how to balance between the risks and opportunities presented by digital media. Some voice concerns about how to manage their children’s ‘screen time,’ to keep them safe and to minimise conflict. Others are more confident of the benefits to their children and also for their families, investing (sometimes heavily) in technology to enjoy, learn and connect – separately and together. In our research project Parenting for a Digital Future we have interviewed families who represent this spectrum and beyond.

"Le lancement du jeu de réalité augmentée Pokémon Go est un succès retentissant pour Nintendo comme pour Niantic, la société qui l’a développé. C’est peut-être même le jeu pour smartphone le plus populaire des États-Unis, avec un nombre d’utilisateurs quotidien qui dépasse parfois Twitter, Facebook et Tinder. Pourtant, l’une de ses fonctionnalités les plus intéressantes est invisible. Le but de cette franchise du jeu Pokémon pour Game Boy – sorti il y a 20 ans – consiste à se balader dans le monde réel en quête de Pokémon « sauvages » générés par l’application. En activant l’appareil photo de son smartphone, le joueur voit apparaître des Pokémon dans des espaces bien réels, qu’il doit à la fois trouver et capturer."

"In September of 2014 in Chicago, the Poynter Institute in partnership with the McCormick Foundation, brought together more than 100 participants for a News Literacy Summit, where researchers, educators, practitioners and funders gathered to set the course of practice, pedagogy and research in news literacy.  e summit highlighted some cutting edge work being done in classrooms, in com-munitiesi and in universities. Central to these conversations were best practices for teach-ing future journalists—and citizens—about critical engagement in the news landscape in contemporary digital culture. Scholars at this gathering presented fi ndings from research exploring where news literacy exists, how it’s taught and evaluated, and how new technolo-gies are impacting the ecosystem for news."
