Connectivism as a Digital Age Learning Theory

George Siemens and Stephen Downes developed a theory for the digital age, called connectivism, denouncing boundaries of behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism. Their proposed learning theory has issued a debate over whether it is a learning theory or instructional theory or merely a pedagogical view.

MILID Yearbook 2014: Global Citizenship in a Digital World

MILID Yearbook 2014: Global Citizenship in a Digital World | Educommunication | Scoop.it

«Global citizenship assumes ease of participation in global spaces in which persons are media and information literate and are equipped with competencies and attitudes to deal with the multi-faceted nature of a mediated world in which information is no longer bound by space or time. The unprecedented access to and use of media and Internet technologies for communication and collaboration especially among youth, suggest that effective strategies must be found to enable active critical inquiry and effective media production. The proliferation of mediated spaces throughout education environments, as well as personal and professional environments, does not in itself guarantee that citizens will consider their role as global citizens as they create and consume media. This awareness must be cultivated, encouraged and taught.»

“Hoje a grande ideologia é a ciência e a técnica”

“Hoje a grande ideologia é a ciência e a técnica” | Educommunication | Scoop.it
O humanismo criou a ciência e a técnica, e o meio criou o humanismo.

"There are two clichés of teenagers in mainstream media – that of monosyllabic grunting threatening trouble makers, or the front page photo of two long haired blond girls hugging as they celebrate their exam results.

Sure they exist, but Radio 1 wants to shout proudly about all of the young people living in our society and the fantastically diverse lives being experienced in the UK today. "

“Level Up Learning” Captures State of Digital Games in Classroom

“Level Up Learning” Captures State of Digital Games in Classroom | Educommunication | Scoop.it
Amid a boom in investment and experimentation with educational technologies in U.S. schools, digital games are gaining a strong foothold in the K-8 classroom, as teachers report incorporating video games in their curriculum  with  positive results. A national survey of nearly 700 U.S. K-8 teachers conducted by the Joan Ganz Cooney Center and the Games and Learning Publishing Council reveals that almost three-quarters of K-8 teachers are using digital games for instruction. Four out of five of those teachers report that their students play games at school at least once a month.

A inquietante insuficiência humana diante da técnica

A inquietante insuficiência humana diante da técnica | Educommunication | Scoop.it

Every child should learn to program, but not necessarily how to code - theguardian.com

Every child should learn to program, but not necessarily how to code - theguardian.com | Educommunication | Scoop.it
I am a proud geek and father of three young children. I taught myself to code Basic at the age of 12 on my father’s Commodore 64, and I actively encourage my children to be enthused by the notion of building with digital tools. But I don’t necessarily agree with the notion that every child must learn how to code.

US adds books on poverty and class to dangerous reading list

US adds books on poverty and class to dangerous reading list | Educommunication | Scoop.it
Subjects such as religion, race, gender, sexuality and allegations of sexually explicit content or offensive language frequently top the list.

More worrying, however, is the recent rise in efforts to get books banned that cover poverty and social class. At a time when rising inequality and the demonisation of poorer people (both in the UK and the US) is commonplace, such attempts to remove books that depict the reality of life for people who are struggling should concern us all.
