Trata-se do primeiro relatório do projeto ERC – Públicos e Consumos de Média, iniciado em finais de 2014 e que tem por objetivo central analisar a evolução dos consumos de média em Portugal. O desenvolvimento deste projeto assenta essencialmente na realização de um inquérito anual a nível nacional (continente e regiões autónomas), através do qual se pretende conhecer os hábitos de consumo de média dos portugueses e a sua evolução. A primeira edição privilegiou a análise dos consumos de notícias em plataformas digitais.

Una de cada cinco personas es propietaria de un teléfono móvil. Esto se traduce en más de 1.000 millones de seres humanos con un terminal entre sus manos. Vivimos en la era de la movilidad y nuestro smartphone se ha convertido ya en una extensión de nosotros mismos.

El rápido avance de las nuevas tecnologías ha modificado en poco tiempo los teléfonos móviles dotándolos de características que hacen que no nos separemos de ellos ni un solo momento ante las múltiples funcionalidades que ofrecen.

De acuerdo a un informe elaborado por el Pew Research Center en 2013, el 29% de los estadounidenses afirma de forma rotunda que no podría vivir sin su teléfono móvil. Los smartphones se han convertido en un elemento indispensable para cada vez más personas y así lo demuestran las fotografías.

WAY BACK IN 1981, the BBC gave almost every school in the United Kingdom a computer. The BBC Micro, made by Acorn Computers, was a beige box that looked a lot like a typewriter and taught children how to code. Like the Commodore 64, the Micro ushered in a wave of computer literacy among kids who came of age in the 1980s.

In October, BBC Learning will launch its first digital literacy project since the Micro when it gives every student in Year 7 (11- and 12-year-olds) a credit card-sized BBC Micro:bit computer. The new device, unveiled this week, is the result of a massive, multi-year collaboration between the BBC and 29 partners ranging from Samsung and Microsoft to ARM and Technology Will Save Us, which designed the Micro:bit.

"En este estudio hemos analizado el estado actual de la alfabetización mediática prestando especial atención al cine y los videojuegos. Hemos intentado analizar si algunos de los problemas encontrados a lo largo de la historia de la alfabetización cinematográfica han existido también en el proceso de la alfabetización en los videojuegos, intentando unificar ambas visiones para captar la atención de las personas que trabajan en el campo de los videojuegos. Para ello, el estudio abarca la alfabetización en los videojuegos en dos dimensiones, la dimensión cultural y la dimensión creativa. La dimensión cultural se define a partir de los enfoques críticos y educacionales y la creativa mediante el diseño y la programación. Estas investigaciones se han llevado a cabo sin dejar de lado la perspectiva de la alfabetización cinematográfica. Hemos descubierto que la alfabetización en los videojuegos tiene una fuerte tendencia hacia el enfoque cultural, sobre todo la vertiente educativa, y que los riesgos que plantea el enfoque crítico presentan problemas similares a los que se registran en los estudios sobre el cine. En cuanto a la dimensión creativa, hemos advertido una falta de inversión para el estudio y la investigación de prácticas de diseño y programación. En conclusión, creemos que la alfabetización en los videojuegos necesita un nivel de motivación. Estimamos urgente la implantación de una perspectiva de alfabetización basada en el diseño creativo y la programación, poniendo especial énfasis en el desarrollo del enfoque comunicativo.

The popularisation of media studies as a factor in media literacy | Educommunication | Scoop.it
The study of media and communication has not only proved to be rather an attractive field of inquiry in the humanities and social sciences; it has also been accepted and exploited by other academic fields. Furthermore, its results are also applied in many other fields of activity, starting with political communication and advertising and ending up with media education programmes that have become part of the curriculum in elementary and secondary schools in many countries. With the development of the concept of “media literacy”, media and communication studies now faces a rather urgent task: to organise its knowledge and expertise in order to make them useful and understandable to a wider audience, including specific audiences (for instance children and seniors), to communicate chosen facts, concepts and findings in an acceptable way and, last not least, to restructure the academic activities of media studies to meet the needs of the general public.

Excessive use of computer games among young people in China appears to be taking an alarming turn and may have particular relevance for American parents whose children spend many hours a day focused on electronic screens. The documentary “Web Junkie,” to be shown next Monday on PBS, highlights the tragic effects on teenagers who become hooked on video games, playing for dozens of hours at a time often without breaks to eat, sleep or even use the bathroom. Many come to view the real world as fake.

Contextualizing Corporate Kids: Kinderculture as Cultural Pedagogy

Consumer culture has an overwhelming impact on the young consumer generation. International corporations often focus on children and youth for a major part of their income generation. This focus is a component of the changing nature of society. Instead of consumers discovering their own wants and needs, corporations create and dictate exactly what people want. This article discusses how media and corporation-generated consumption have helped to form what I call the new childhood. My analysis investigates the footprints of power created by the corporate producers of kinderculture and the effects on the psyches of our children and youth. The understanding of kinderculture can create democratic pedagogies for cultural, personal, and school levels of society.

Ce mercredi 29 juillet sort au cinéma une transposition à l’écran du Petit Prince, l’œuvre majeure d’Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

Cette adaptation cinématographique n’est pas anodine. En effet, le film sort en 2015, année à partir de laquelle Antoine de Saint-Exupéry est entré dans le domaine public partout dans le monde – partout, sauf dans son pays d’origine : la France. On peut pousser un peu plus la symbolique en rappelant que le film sort quasiment le jour de l’anniversaire de la mort de l’auteur du Petit Prince disparu le 31 juillet 1944. Saint-Exupéry ayant disparu au cours d’une mission à la fin de la Seconde guerre mondiale, il bénéficie de la distinction « Mort pour la France ». En vertu de l’article 123-10 du Code de la propriété intellectuelle, les auteurs « morts pour la France » bénéficient d’une extension de 30 ans de la durée de leurs droits patrimoniaux. Mais  l’auteur étant mort, cette prolongation bénéficie évidemment uniquement à ses ayants droit. L’auteur n’ayant pas eu d’enfants, il s’agit d’un groupe assez divers mêlant famille élargie et d’autres héritiers.

In the last two decades the conception and practice of participatory culture have been transformed by the new affordances enabled by digital, networked and mobile technologies. This exciting new book explores that transformation by bringing together three leading figures in conversation. Jenkins, Ito and boyd examine the ways in which our personal and professional lives are shaped by experiences interacting with and around emerging media.

Stressing the social and cultural contexts of participation, the authors describe the process of diversification and mainstreaming that has transformed participatory culture. They advocate a move beyond individualized personal expression, and argue for an ethos of 'doing it together' in addition to 'doing it yourself'

Which would you prefer: naked pictures of yourself circulating on the Internet or a breach of your financial data?

According to a new U.S. survey from MasterCard, 62 per cent of millennials would rather have their nude photos leaked online than have their financial information stolen or compromised. By contrast, the general population is a little more shy about their bodies: 55 per cent would rather get naked on the Internet than lose financial privacy.

La question de la participation liée à l’idée de démocratisation a été abordée dans la pensée communicationnelle dès la décennie 1970 en Amérique du Nord et en Europe. Cet article propose quelques pistes pour penser l’articulation entre les usages participatifs contemporains des technologies numériques en tant que vecteurs d’émancipation – mais aussi, simultanément, d’aliénation – et un ensemble de pratiques individuelles et collectives visant la construction d’une démocratie cognitive, c’est-à-dire l’édification d’une organisation sociale et politique où l’ensemble des citoyens retrouverait leur plein droit à la connaissance, un droit ayant eu tendance à s’effacer avec la surspécialisation et le morcellement des savoirs causés par les développements disciplinaires des sciences naturelles et sociales. Ces pratiques émergentes visent aujourd’hui localement la constitution de « communs de la connaissance ». Ces nouvelles pratiques collaboratives orientées vers la construction du commun sont le fait de communautés épistémiques qui résistent au processus de transformation de l’information en marchandise, rouage essentiel du capitalisme informationnel.

La communication numérique dans les cultures adolescentes - Dominique Pasquier

Cet article propose un bilan sélectif des travaux sur les usages de la communication numérique dans les cultures juvéniles en s’intéressant à quatre aspects : la spécificité des dispositifs de communication privilégiés par les jeunes au cours de la décennie 2000 ; le rôle important qu’ils ont joué dans l’exploration de la vie relationnelle ; les dérives qu’ils peuvent entraîner du fait de la publicisation des relations amicales et amoureuses ; et la reconfiguration des réseaux de fans qu’ils ont permise. Enfin, cet article tend à souligner certaines ambivalences de l’intégration du numérique dans la vie quotidienne des jeunes et à inciter à la vigilance devant les versions extrêmement positives de son évolution dans les études récentes sur les communications numériques.

Pew Internet ha publicado un estudio que revela cómo usan los padres de familia las redes sociales. El informe precisa que hay un alto índice de empleo de espacios como Twitter y Facebook para encontrar información sobre la crianza de hijos.

Los padres están de acuerdo con que las redes sociales sirven para conectarse con gente. El 81% lo hace para responder a buenas noticias y de este grupo la mayoría es madre.

El 74% ingresa a espacios sociales para conseguir apoyo de sus amigos. Y el 71% trata de responder alguna pregunta posteada por algún conocido.
