Estudo ERC: Públicos, consumos de noticias e plataformas digitais | Educommunication | Scoop.it

Parents’ Views of Video Games: Habitus Forms in the Context of Parental Mediation

This paper is based on a research project conducted in 2014 on parental attitudes to, and their mediation of, video games. Qualitative, semi-structured interviews with 28 parents (14 couples) explored their media-related habitus, their media-educational habitus and the interaction between the habitus. The results show, inter alia, that the media-related habitus has a significant influence on the media-educational habitus.

"The New Curricula: Propelling the Growth of Media Literacy Education" by Tessa Jolls

As new online and cellular technologies advance, the implications for the traditional textbook model of curricular instruction are profound. The ability to construct, share, collaborate on and publish new instructional materials marks the beginning of a global revolution in curricula development. Research-based media literacy frameworks can be applied to all subjects, and they enable teachers to have confidence that, in employing the frameworks to address academic subjects, themes or projects, students will gain content knowledge. Teaching through media literacy education strategies provides the opportunity to make media literacy central to teaching and learning, since media literacy process skills enable students to become self-directed lifelong learners, capable of addressing any subject. What are characteristics of curricula that use media literacy frameworks? How does such curricula differ from traditionally constructed curricula? And why should administrators and teachers embrace this change? As education is moving from paper-based, face-to-face classwork to technology-enabled curricula that is better, faster and cheaper, educators need new yet proven approaches and curricular resources to delivering effective lessons and outcomes. With media literacy education, this shift is not only possible but also imperative for providing curricula for the globalized classroom.

Spaces for Learning: New Trends

Spaces for Learning: New Trends | Educommunication | Scoop.it

«You do not have to go far back in time to find images of classrooms that fit the look and feel experienced by the first students to experience formalised school education. Sadly you most likely can find classrooms that fit this image in your local school, today. A blackboard or Interactive Whiteboard at the front of the room, a teachers desk beside it, rows of neatly aligned desks and walls conspicuously devoid of colour or covered in carefully selected pieces of student work with a motivational poster going yellow in one corner. But not all classrooms are like this, some present learners with a mix of spaces suitable to a variety of learning modes or meet these varying needs through the use of spaces that are readily adapted throughout the day. Flexible learning spaces that may be tailored to the needs of the learners are said to be the future of learning.»

Rethinking the Educator’s Role Toward Distributed Teaching | DMLcentral

In our day-to-day work, we come across a vast range of blog entries, papers, presentations, videos, posts and tweets about digital education, in which different aspects of online learning and teaching are depicted, experiences made are reflected upon and new concepts and approaches are presented. Reading through these, we cannot help but be reminded of the picture showing a typical teaching scenario of the Dark Ages: a teacher being surrounded by a group of learners, listening to him and learning from him. At that time, the teacher was the source of all knowledge. He was the one with power and access to the things known at that time. The learners relied on him to teach them the things they needed to learn. They were the consumers of his knowledge. Since then, teaching methods have come a long way. So why is it that this image still comes to mind when
