"Stick 'em Up, " Gates To Warren Buffet As He Shares Startup Tips via @HaikuDeck | Educator | Scoop.it

Buffet's Startup Tips Are so important I created a @HaikuDeck for his tips and for implied startup tips such as:

* Multiple Money - don't depend on one income source.

* Spending - buying things you don't need means selling stuff you do...eventually.

* Savings - Save then spend not the other way around.

* Investment - Never put all eggs in one basket no matter how beautiful the egg.
* Honesty - Honesty and character and lack of it are expensive and amplifed by money so don't expect from "cheap people".

Thought this was a good Scoop to reprise given Buffet's offer to pay $1B for a perfect NCAA Tourney Bracket. Talk about how to get millions in free PR (lol). As if Warren needs "free" anything :). Smart money always makes MORE money.

Simple ways to think about what your business should do when first getting off the ground.  The ideas make sense when you read them out loud, but are often missed.

We continue to use technology to reinforce 19th century teaching practice' | Educator | Scoop.it

why [has] technology, to date, had very little impact on improved learning outcomes? This could be because we continue to use technology to reinforce 19th century teaching practice to meet out-dated assessment models. Most of the world’s curriculum and assessment systems are based around fact recall rather than actually demonstrating that you have learned something and can deploy it within a problem-solving situation.

Pia Parry's insight:

Excellent teachers are not merely transmitters of data but individuals who make it their mission to engender their students' lifelong curiosity in the subjects they teach.

Excellent teachers encourage their students to 'play with/investigate/analyse' information they learn during lessons and allow students to draw their own conclusions.

Current assessment techniques are based largely on measuring only the capacity of a person's short term memory.  In order to change the assessment methods, we must first radically change the way our society currently interprets the word 'education'!

"Another Brick In The Wall" - Pink Flloyd

Our  education system is nothing more than child-care with some

indoctrination thown in.

See/hear "The Wall" by Pink Floyd  (40+ years ago.)

Let the children play until they are old enough to decide what they are interested in learning. That's completely different than training them from Day 1 to "sit still, be quiet, and obey authority." Training a 5-year old to become a "worker" or 'Businessman"  is not education, but it may be child abuse.
