OPINION: The Case for 'Learning Designers'

OPINION: The Case for 'Learning Designers' | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"For edtech startups to be be profoundly successful (ie. transform learning experiences on a grand scale) they really need to be innovative with their pedagogy as well as their technology. Otherwise, there is a danger that things they build will just end up replicating existing practices, only faster and shinier."

So true and so easily lost in the desire to be "innovative" schools.
Drora Arussy's curator insight, May 7, 2013 9:14 AM

So many schools are going for the wow factor of new technology. Good education should still be our main goal. There are so many possibilities for home and school engagement, for processing and internalizing as opposed to regurgitating information, for sharing and building upon others' ideas. It is incumbent upon those who are using technology to up the ante - a smartboard is not just a new blackboard and projector together, an ipad can take students to other places and allow them to integrate their interests into the lessons and homework. Technology has the possibility to take education to the next lesson with the proper educators - not in and of itself.
