Kleinspiration: 10 Apps & Sites for Digital Storytelling & more! | educational technology for teachers | Scoop.it

Students can tell their story in a digital manner the same as they would orally or on paper.  Digital storytelling is simply applying one's creative ideas in a manner that allows him or her to add multimedia (video, images, and audio) to their voice.

Donna Browne's insight:

I would add Xtranormal to this list, it's a great option for older students.

One of the many things that we tried today in my Future Schools workshop was creating whiteboard instructional videos. Someone in the group suggested using those videos as layers in Aurasma that would trigger when students scanned a geometric shape. Even if you don't use Aurasma to showcase your videos, whiteboard videos can be helpful in helping students understand a process or concept. Here is a handful of tools for making whiteboard videos.

Excellent Random Name Selector Apps for Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Excellent Random Name Selector Apps for Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | educational technology for teachers | Scoop.it
Below is a list of some very good name selector apps for teachers. The idea of such a list was born out of an email we received from a teacher asking about some recommended apps in this regard. We did some online research (we started with AppCrawlr)  and came up with the titles below. Some of the things you can do with apps below include: randomly pick student names and teams, divide students into different groups, create random teams in class and many more:

3 Different Things You Can Do With Google Classroom - Edudemic

3 Different Things You Can Do With Google Classroom - Edudemic | educational technology for teachers | Scoop.it

by Nikolaos Chatzopoulos

"Google’s advance in the education field has brought to schools around the globe affordable devices and effortless access to educational content. Google’s latest solution for learning is called Google Classroom. Although Google Classroom will be available at the beginning of the school year to all schools that have adopted Google Apps for Education, the Mountain View based company granted access to Google Classroom to a select few individuals in July. I was fortunate enough to be one of these early adopters/testers of Google Classroom, and I can honestly say that I am impressed by its simplicity, and its ability to seamlessly integrate Google Docs, Sheets,Drive, Gmail, and more in order to provide a wonderful and highly productive user experience."

Different technologies have certain affordances that can do wonders to transforming the classroom, or in this case "flipping" the classroom, but teachers are best served when they understand how to complement their traditional teacher model and taking advantage of the tools available to their student audience.

Tamasa Nelson's curator insight, March 16, 10:54 PM

Vialogues helps teachers with uploading videos from sites such as YouTube and Vimeo and using a one single platform for their video lessons.

Ed Puzzle allows teachers to embed questions inside of their videos which is very unique.

Donna Browne's curator insight, August 18, 2014 8:30 AM

I was recently inspired by Sean Junkins’ (@sjunkins) periodic table of iPad Apps. I thought it was a really useful too – being able to map Apps to activities – I thought it a really helpful too. With that in mind, I wanted to be able to use it as a poster myself but whilst I thought it was great I didn’t however quite agree with some of the App choices. I wanted different categories too that related more to the use I thought would be useful in UK schools, hence I created my own version from scratch in Photoshop which I share below.

Google Classroom and the Teaching Machine

Google Classroom and the Teaching Machine | educational technology for teachers | Scoop.it
Donna Browne's insight:

It’s important to remember here — and looking too at the Google Classroom launch with a grading scale based on 100 points (a grading scale that is not "natural," that has a history) — that technology does not simply work in the service of supporting educational practices. Technology shapes, limits, steers those practices, and then — and this is key — even when the technology changes, those practices endure. They become “hard coded.” They become part of the infrastructure.
