"DisplayNote is a software and app solution that gives a way of tying all these elements together. Simply load the software onto your computer (Mac or PC). When you open it up, it will work as an overlay to the computer desktop and give you a bank of interactive tools that you can use from your computer or any interactive display."

As I note (perhaps too often), infotention involves practicing attentional self-training in conjunction with learning appropriate information tools. Dashboards such as Netvibes (RSS) and Hootsuite (social media) can help you coordinate the internal and external components. I use both Evernote and Hootsuite, so was pleased to see this short (under 5 minute) video about how to combine them productively

7 Fabulous iPad apps to create short animations for your flipped classroom - ICT @ Clayfield College

7 Fabulous iPad apps to create short animations for your flipped classroom - ICT @ Clayfield College | Educational Technology for Higher Ed. | Scoop.it

"Flipped learning or flipped classroom is a learning concept that has been making some huge uproar within educational circles for the last couple of years. Flipped classroom is not a new concept as some would argue but only the advance of technology particularly the mobile and handheld gadgetry brought it to the surface and gave it more prominence . I have written profusely about this teaching/learning strategy and  Flipped Learning Resources section here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning features some of these materials.

Today, however, I am sharing with you a set of some wonderful apps that you can use to create short video lessons and tutorials to share with your students."

Matt Richardson's comment, February 28, 2014 7:00 AM
I also appreciate the sentiment here, but as a geography teacher in high school I also find that students are missing very basic information about the world as it is right now. For example, many of my students can't identify more than about three countries in Africa, and I've had students in the past who could not even find the U.S. on a map. Now I force them to take the dreaded 'blank map' quizzes of the world. Its distressing, but it needs to be done. Interestingly, many of my lower level students like these types of tests because there are online games that teach them the locations in a fun way, and also because it is a very literal task. The ones who struggle with higher level material can at least succeed at this if they study.
PIRatE Lab's comment, February 28, 2014 11:16 AM
Yes, as Seth and several commenters have said, we need both. And too often my students don't seem to know the basic facts/history of a particular situation. You must know where you are coming from if you ever want to get to somewhere new.

For those that are lifelong learners  and in the learning mode as opposed to the knowing mode.  Let me count the ways to get a message across no matter what the age of the student is.

Marzano's famous "Nine" continue to be the topic of many professional development agendas, and continue to deliver research-based and improved student outcomes.  A "must-know" for the teaching vocation.
