Why You Should Use Video In Education - Edudemic

Why You Should Use Video In Education - Edudemic | Educational Technology, E-Learning & Pedagogy | Scoop.it
When I was a student, ‘using video in education’ mostly meant showing a movie in class. Which to me, as a student, was clearly much better than the alternative of a lecture.

When To Put The Tech Away In Your 1:1 (or Any) Classroom | Educational Technology, E-Learning & Pedagogy | Scoop.it
We’d had enough technology, and now it was time to re-engage as a class. Clearly, the iMacs had become a deterrent to learning rather than a catalyst, so it was time to re-group. Would I recommend the above strategy to middle or high school students?

How Technology Has Changed Our Idea of ‘Knowledge,’ and What This Means for Schools

How Technology Has Changed Our Idea of ‘Knowledge,’ and What This Means for Schools | Educational Technology, E-Learning & Pedagogy | Scoop.it
Before the internet existed, humans had a very different concept of what “knowledge” was, says researcher David Weinberger. This concept was defined by the physical properties of the dominant medium for sharing information back then—paper—and the limitations it placed on this process. For instance, we’ve tended to think of knowledge as something that was orderly: organized neatly into chapters and books, and sorted on shelves in the library according to a rigorous classification system. We understood it as something that was filtered, with writers, editors, publishers, and curators making conscious decisions about what to include and what to leave out.

I also like that the ePortfolio can follow the student and allows each teacher to see prior work writing samples to get an authentic look at where the student is performing. It is a built in "needs assessment!"

I have recently been working with organizations on how the introduction of gamification into their training and development strategy plans for employee skill development.  The interesting thing as well is the application of the concepts to both hard and soft skills, that allow for returning to the results in the future as well as updating of skills as the individual progresses.

Training the Brain to Listen: A Practical Strategy for Student Learning and Classroom Management

Training the Brain to Listen: A Practical Strategy for Student Learning and Classroom Management | Educational Technology, E-Learning & Pedagogy | Scoop.it
Editor's note: This post is co-authored by Marcus Conyers who, with Donna Wilson, is co-developer of the M.S. and Ed.S. Brain-Based Teaching degree programs at Nova Southeastern University. During the school year, students are expected to listen to and absorb vast amounts of content. But how much time has been devoted to equipping students with ways to disconnect from their own internal dialogue (self-talk) and to focus their attention fully on academic content that is being presented? Listening is hard work even for adults. When students are unable to listen effectively, classroom management issues arise.
