Slatebox - Visualize Everything

Slatebox - Visualize Everything | Educational Technology | Scoop.it

Slatebox helps you draw and share ideas very easily on "slates" that kids love to use. You can spend less time telling them how to use Slatebox and more time conveying the idea because it's so straightforward.

You can give new students logins with PINs instead of email. Plus, you'll see everything they do in real-time. You'll be able to assign new slates as homework based on templates you produce, and manage all of their work from a single portal.

Interesting article about making learning into a kind of computer game.

Edgar Mata's curator insight, August 15, 10:40 AM

Blended Learning: Creating Awesome Online Discussions

Blended Learning: Creating Awesome Online Discussions | Educational Technology | Scoop.it

Tim Robinson: If our students think that the discussion posting is useless and not at all entertaining. It likely means that it is useless and not at all entertaining. We know this because we often feel the same way when we have to make contrived discussions posts. It’s not that our jobs are about entertaining students, but we do need to do what we can do make it at least tolerable.

If we can expand our understanding of the tool to get beyond just ‘discussions’ but see it as a platform for other creative ways to explore a topic, we’ll find a much richer level of learning. We can, maybe, even have some fun with it.

46 Tools To Make Infographics In The Classroom

46 Tools To Make Infographics In The Classroom | Educational Technology | Scoop.it
“46 Tools To Make Infographics In The Classroom” Infographics are interesting–a mash of (hopefully) easily-consumed visuals (so, symbols, shapes, and images) and added relevant character-based data (so, numbers, words, and brief sentences). The learning application for them is clear, with many academic standards–including the Common Core standards–requiring teachers to use a variety of media forms, charts, and other data for both information reading as well as general fluency. It’s curious they haven’t really “caught on” in schools considering how well they bridge both the old-form textbook habit of cramming tons of information into a small space, while also neatly overlapping with the dynamic and digital world.
