Got Skills? Why Online Competency-Based Education Is the Disruptive Innovation for Higher Education

Got Skills? Why Online Competency-Based Education Is the Disruptive Innovation for Higher Education | Educational Technology | Scoop.it

The true disrupter in higher education is not MOOCs; it’s competency-based online education. Linking workforce needs with learning outcomes, competency-based education is agile, modularized, and more affordable than the traditional higher education experience.

The conversation about what kids need to know and to be able to do by the end of high school has gradually shifted over the past several years to emphasize not just rigorous content goals, but also less tangible skills, such as creative thinking, problem-solving and collaboration.

25 Must-Have Free Fonts for Entrepreneurs and Designers

25 Must-Have Free Fonts for Entrepreneurs and Designers | Educational Technology | Scoop.it

Great fonts (like most excellent things on the Internet) are generally handcrafted by independent designers. Making a font takes an incredible amount of effort, which is usually reflected in the price tag. On rare occasions, though, kind and generous designers will give out a few fonts for free, as a way of advertising the rest of their collection. If you like any of the fonts below, please consider supporting their creators.

I’ve compiled the following list of 25 must-have free fonts for entrepreneurs, designers and anyone else looking to impress. Enjoy!...

'I Teach Students, Not Subjects'

'I Teach Students, Not Subjects' | Educational Technology | Scoop.it

Teachers, parents, and administrators are raising their voices louder, and in solidarity, as unrealistic demands for students are being handed down from education policy makers and corporate reformers. It is becoming apparent that we've had enough of the testing, enough of the scripted, fake curriculum, and enough of the crowded, underfunded classrooms where we can't possibly reach all of our students, daily, in any sort of a meaningful way.

Chart Integrating Maslow Hierarchy of Needs with Technology ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Chart Integrating Maslow Hierarchy of Needs with Technology ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Educational Technology | Scoop.it

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is a motivational theory developed by the renowned psychologist and humanist Abraham Harold Maslow (April 1, 1908 – June 8, 1970). Being disappointed by the behaviourist theories of the day that primarily focused on the study of problematic behaviour, Maslow took a different turn and did in-depth studies on the motivational part of the human conduct. He explored areas responsible for driving people's behaviour and happiness. For Maslow, any behaviour is a complex act that aim at the achievement of a certain goal.
