My Paperless Classoom: Coding with Kindergartners

My Paperless Classoom: Coding with Kindergartners | Educational Technology | Scoop.it
“ I was working with a kindergartner during coding club and I asked her to find the block that ended with the word "up." Now in my defense, I thought it was a likely sight word and chances were pretty good she knew it. She was incredulous, "I can't read!" So here was my challenge, can you teach programming to students who do not yet read? Of course, I look beyond this challenge and see the next: Can you use programming to support and deliver literacy instruction?”

3 Interactive iPad Math Apps for Primary Grades, That Teachers Can Easily Implement | Educational Technology | Scoop.it
"If you are a primary class mathematics teacher you know that putting the foundation of understanding in place for new mathematics principles can be challenging. This often involves building on concepts like number systems and arithmetic basics while incorporating new ideas. For example, to teach the concept of square root “√”, you will have to ensure that students are well-equipped with the concepts of multiplication and division."

Indispensable iPad Apps for Teachers Professional Development ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Indispensable iPad Apps for Teachers Professional Development ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Educational Technology | Scoop.it

"The concept of teacher professional development has radically changed due to the boom in digital technologies and social media websites. The web now is replete with a variety of professional learning networks and communities of practice on almost any topic you think of. There is also another type of portals that have seen the light recently and which offer massive courses and trainings on different subjects, these are MOOCs. MOOCs are a great way for growing professionally particularly that most of the courses they offer are free. I have already featured some interesting MOOC resources that teachers can use for the enhancement of their PD and today I want to share with you some wonderful iPad apps that will allow you to pursue your PD on the go."

How to Use Scratch for Digital Storytelling - graphite

How to Use Scratch for Digital Storytelling - graphite | Educational Technology | Scoop.it
"Digital storytelling involves combining digital media (images, voice narration, music, text, or motion) to tell a story. Over the past few years, digital storytelling has become an increasingly popular and effective way for students to meet a range of learning goals in the classroom. Scratch, a programming project from the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab, might be an unexpected tool for digital storytelling. But using Scratch to tell a story is a “twofer”: Students practice important ELA skills and at the same time use computational thinking."
