the digital portfolio process outlines

AAEEBL's comment, January 20, 2013 8:12 PM
ReScooped, but I want to raise some questions about some of the key values eportfolios offer such as peer interaction and social learning and integrative knowledge and reflection. This 3-step process seems to make it all look very simple, but there's a good deal of educational transformation and adjustment to new pedagogical practices that go along with these three steps.
AAEEBL's curator insight, January 20, 2013 8:13 PM

I'd be very interested in comments on these three steps?  What's being left out?  Social learning?  Integrative learning?  Reflection?  This does not reflect any values in eportfolio work or actual LEARNING advantages.  Thoughts?

"DONNA MURDOCH"

Donna Murdoch's insight:

How Do We Define and Measure "Deeper Learning?"

When we read about deep learning in recently published articles, it is often not about people learning, rather it’s about teaching machines to think more hierarchically or more contextually — to see a picture of a mole, for example, and work down from recognizing the features that comprise an animal t to recognizing the specific features that make it a mole (GigaOm.)  This article from Mindshift expands on meaningful deep learning for people.  It’s contextual, and enables learners to make connections by understanding deeply.   “Simply defined, “deeper learning” is the “process of learning for transfer,” meaning it allows a student to take what’s learned in one situation and apply it to another, explained James Pellegrino, one of the authors of the report. “You can use knowledge in ways that make it useful in new situations,” he said in a recent webinar. “You have procedural knowledge of how, why, and when to apply it to answer questions and solve problems.””
