"Today I am bringing you a great find I learned through TechChef4U. This is a list of useful iPad apps to transform your teaching. The list is created by Rachel Jones ( from  Create Innovate Explore ) and features some really great titles that every teacher should know about. Moving at the Speed of Creativity | Tips for Getting Started with AppleTV Mirroring | Educational Technology 411 | Scoop.it

"Several teachers in our elementary school got AppleTVs installed in their classrooms recently and have questions about how to use it. These are some suggested tips and techniques for getting started. Since wifi network configurations are unique for different school districts, these instructions may be a little different than what you need for your setting. Required steps also depend on how your AppleTV is connected to your projector. The AppleTV used for the steps shown in this post is directly connected to the “HDMI” port of a classroom projector."

"Anyone can type a word or phrase into the Google window and hope for the best.

Some even use quotation marks, or use autocomplete to their advantage. But how about putting a dash before a word to exclude it from your search? Or using the tilde–like a boss–to search for synonyms for a term as well?"

Good iPad Apps for Classroom Management ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Good iPad Apps for Classroom Management ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Educational Technology 411 | Scoop.it

"Managing one's class effectively is not an easy task. We've probably all had issues with classroom management in our careers as teachers and educators but experience has taught us a lot about how to deal with it. Some teachers  subsume the core classroom management in behaviour management which is completely wrong. Behavioural issues are only part of classroom management and the other parts include things like, getting students engaged, increasing their focus and attention, making them responsible for their learning... to mention but a few."

5 Tools for Reading Digital Text

5 Tools for Reading Digital Text | Educational Technology 411 | Scoop.it

"With text no longer relegated exclusively to the pages between the cover of a book or a magazine, the shift from paper to digital texts has brought on a whole new form of literacy. This upheaval in how we read brings with it new opportunities for learning as well as new challenges.

Experts refer to this phenomenon as transliteracy. In a study published in the peer-reviewed journal First Monday, Dr. Sue Thomas and colleagues defined transliteracy as 'the ability to read, write and interact across a range of platforms, tools and media from signing and orality through handwriting, print, TV, radio and film, to digital social networks'."

Beth Dichter's curator insight, July 26, 2013 10:03 PM

When we think about reading today and the diverse platforms for reading we should be thinking of transliteracy. As schools gear up for Common Core assessments we need to be more aware of the fact that our students are reading (and writing) across many platform. There is also the knowledge that when reading online students may be clicking on hyperlinks that lead to other resources and begin to get lost.

Learn about some great tools that may be used to help students stay more focused and organized. This post lists five tools, providing explanations for each of them. The tools discussed are:

* Instapaper

* GoodReader

* Skitch

* Diigo

* Readablity

"As more classrooms adopt mobile devices such as iPads, teachers and technology integrators are faced with the question: “What apps do I install?”

That is quite a hefty question too. There are over 90,000 iOS apps in the Education category of the App Store. Since apps that teachers can use fall into other categories too, the number of choices is well above 100,000. Does your head hurt yet?"

It is not the product/tool that determines if it ought to be added. What/how does it comlement ans supplement waht the teacher is trying to accomplish with each student. So i woud train the teacher in a few of these and leave it up to her.
