Watch the Earth Warm Since 1880

Watch the Earth Warm Since 1880 | Educational Social Media | Scoop.it

"It can be difficult to conceive of the long process that's led the world to having its nine hottest years on record all after 2000. That's why it's nice that NASA has generated this nifty animation, which shows temperature abnormalities for every month of the past 13 decades. Watch reddish warm zones spread over the globe as time rolls past, like a virulent fever covering the body of a sick host."

'Skitch' by Evernote looks interesting as you can easily annotate pictures and videos. 'BaseCamp' looks great for assigning and managing student projects. 'WeVideo' supports Project Based Learning through students working together on video projects. VoiceThread, Padlet and Ease.ly are also recommended.

iPad Be Nimble, iPad Be Quick - Edutopia | Educational Social Media | Scoop.it

"One of the most challenging lessons for schools to learn in implementing iPads is that the iPad is not a laptop. The conversation can sometimes get bogged down around the device, trapping schools in these definitions as they lose sight of the central reasons to use technology: "

Get Ready: MOOCs Are Coming to K-12 -- THE Journal

Get Ready: MOOCs Are Coming to K-12 -- THE Journal | Educational Social Media | Scoop.it

Greg Thompson:

"Lurie believes the hybrid approach is one way to enhance knowledge and branch out from the lecture-based instruction that can grow stale, even when it comes from the best teachers. EdX-blended AP courses "could also provide a level playing field for all schools and all teachers, where in effect our courses become sort of a talking textbook," he says. "MOOCs can be a new set of resources for use by teachers locally in their own classrooms."

Drawp for School: Unleashing Students' Creativity

Drawp for School: Unleashing Students' Creativity | Educational Social Media | Scoop.it

Why Drawp? Students like to share their work and the ubiquity of tablets makes a new arena of creation and different needs for sharing. A drawing or project on an iPad can’t be sent home at the end of the day.
