The Teacher’s Visual Guide To Social Media

The Teacher’s Visual Guide To Social Media | Educational cartoons and jokes | Scoop.it

"What can social media do for you in your classroom? A lot, actually.

The use of social media in formal learning environments is an exciting possibility for a variety of reasons, including authenticity of learning materials, widespread availability, low cost (assuming technology to access it is in place), and other potential, including higher-level thinking possibilities, many of which we outlined in our twitter spectrum.

"The following visual takes a look at facebook, twitter, wordpress, pinterest, and YouTube (a topic we also covered recently)."

I think it's important to involve your students in any way you can. This teachers suggestions are great. Everyone enjoys a humor and I think its important to use it in the classroom
Brittany Anne Garcia's comment, May 7, 12:14 AM
i think that this is a very helpful article for in the classroom because if you lose them in the lesson you have no way of them learning it. But if your able to laugh about the lesson and make jokes that make some kind of sense to it i feel that you really have them engaged in the lesson. I know when i laugh at something i remember it for a while.

Focus On Objectives - Not On Tools [cartoons] | Educational cartoons and jokes | Scoop.it
Analytical skills and capabilities are not what drives a company revenue, the objectives do. This cartoon and quote represent that: focus on your goals, not on what your tool can do.
Maggie Verster's insight:

This is also applicable to educational technologies. The tools are there to support our goals.

Always Be Truthful To Statistics | Educational cartoons and jokes | Scoop.it
It is an important lessons to always be truthful to statistics, no matter how insignificant they are (if there is such a thing as insignificant numbers). If you don't take it seriously it won't yield any insights.

This article talks about how meaningful statistics are and puts an emphasis on the importance of the use of numbers and statistics, and we will use stats everyday as actuaries.

The Innovative Educator: Finally! Research-based proof that students use cell phones for LEARNING

The Innovative Educator: Finally! Research-based proof that students use cell phones for LEARNING | Educational cartoons and jokes | Scoop.it
A new study conducted by TRU provides a body of research which supports the idea that students use cell phones to learn, and also that schools are not acknowledging or supporting them fully, yet. This research supports the work of innovative educators who are guiding today’s generation text and will help in the effort of getting more schools to stop fighting and start embracing student use of mobile devices for learning in school. Rather than banning, the study highlights the fact that if we meet children where they are we can leverage their use of mobile devices for powerful lear ning.

Measure What Matters - Don't Cheat [cartoon]

Measure What Matters - Don't Cheat [cartoon] | Educational cartoons and jokes | Scoop.it
It is very easy to cheat when it comes to measurement. It does not have to be a lie, but analysts can search for the best metrics and show only them. While this will make a company feel good, it is clearly not the best strategy in the long run.
